Welcome to F-Chat! I believe that Holy Donut is in Md, and there's an Md area Cars and Coffee as well. Maybe someone more local than me is better informed.

One of the best shows on the East Coast happens out in St Michaels on Sept 25-27. http://www.stmichaelsconcours.com/ Its only 50 cars and they are all pre-war cars at the concours. Its held at the Inn at Perry Cabin, right on the water at a beautiful time of year out on the Eastern shore. A great event to take the better half to. There are very nice antique shops for her to hit and you have Pebble Beach quality cars to gander at.

I photographed the rally last year, had a great lunch then dinner. I got a ride in a 1911 Mercedes race car with a straight axle. We drifted around every corner. I spent the night on a classic wooden yacht then photographed the concours the next day.

I'd be up for one in Annapolis - other side of the shore.

The Bay Bridge is a beast to cross this time of the year - long backups.

I've been to St. M a few times. Nice place. Gorgeous photos. What is the second to last photo? The black convertible..

I may have to make it down for the event this year.

That was my favorite of the show, an Alfa Romeo 2900b.

On Saturday, they run a series of wooden boat races which is pretty cool to watch and hear.

This event is well worth the effort to get out to st Michaels to attend. It does cost $50 with all the proceeds going to the Red Cross.

The first boat image below was a gorgeous, huge wooden boat powered by a Hispano Suiza aeromotor.

Look up a Judge North, and ask to see the cars.
He may accomodate you. I live by the rule: You don't ask, you don't get. The most he can say is no. He's truly a nice guy and cretified car nut/collector.

I went out to dinner with the North's on that Saturday of the 08 concours. I was in a 26 Rolls, in front a v-16 Caddy and behind his Bugatti Type 57. We came back, I spent the night on his wooden yacht. It was really, really, really cool. He is a wonderful person, incredibly sharp, soft spoken, true gentleman. He is also somewhat private so I'd look for an introduction before rolling up to the homestead. It also might be prudent to remove the reference to his address.

OP - PM me if you want an intro to Judge North.

Ken, I don't believe I noted his address in my post, but I am sure he is in the phone directory.

Quick search and you can see his interest in racing log canoes and his complete, full name, hometown, etc.
These days you can find almost anyone on the Internet and even see their house on GoogleEarth.

Anyone can find out a whole lot about most people w/o trying too hard just using a metasearch engine and semantic search capability. You can run, but you can't hide :)

    Nice pics Ken

I don't want to have to go all wetpet on you! ; ) way just kidding. I realize that you can find anyone you want. One reason the Norths aren't doing their "To Do" anymore is that at the last one, there were so many people in attendance that they simply didn't know. My point was that I wouldn't want to point out the location so casually in such an open environment. I've spoken with David about doing a Discovery piece on the collection and he had no interest, wanting to stay under the radar as much as possible.

thanks on the photo front. The boat shot was a 30 second exposure just before sunrise. I think it has about every shade of blue possible. I'm making a print for the family. Hopefully there's room somewhere in the house to hang it.

    regards

Those boats are works of art and then you throw in an American V8! Wonderous sounds to hear bouncing off the water. I managed to bum a ride on a working boat to take the photos of the guys racing. The water was too choppy and the races ended early.

Hopefully this year will have better weather and we'll see more of these magnificent wooden crafts. Saturday afternoon, after the rally and lunch is when the boat races take place.

    regards
