What would be a good price to pick one up for? And I no depends what has been done. Lets say nothing has been done to it and it has 17,000 miles on it. And over all looks good and does run. Any idea.
you clearly have a car you are interested in and know some details, fill us in. do you know the asking price? wing? interior cond.? paint cond.? services? by nothing has been done, do you mean it has never been serviced? if so, I would stay far far away
$75K or best offer. Bad thing its been in storage for ten years. Still getting more detail on it. Well I dont think the engine has been pulled out and service what I mean. Post more detail when I no more.
I know I may take some heat over this but: In this market $50-60K. That allows about $40-45k for a full engine out service including a full regasket and reseal of the engine, rebuilding of the carbs, rebuilt water pump, clutch assembly with throw out bearing, tires, new shocks and some heim joints. If you want to upgrade the exhaust while the engine is out add about $5-6K. I might be a little out on my estimate, but not by much.
Ignored for ten years, minimum $20,000 to begin. Add another $20,000 if the motor needs alot of work. Depending on condition...paint chipped/dinged....interior shabby...then you're looking at less than $75,000. Would this car happen to be red and rough????
Don't read too much into 17K miles. You can do a lot of damage to a car in that many miles. If it hasn't been run in 10 years, assume the worst. PM sent.
If it's a S2 rather than an S3 then it would be worth maybe $20,000 more than the advice you are reading here. It's simple to know if the VIN is at or before 1121310 then it's an S2 if it is 1121312 or beyond then it's an S3 and the numbers here are all in line. I know of a 5000S that just sold for $65,000 that needed $20,000 spent on it... as it was told to me by the new owner, just for reference. Tony
Depending on miles, condition, color combo, wing, etc. I believe there is always a buyer out there for a good car that is "all done" and yes it would be worth $85K.
Im also now trying to decide which would be better Countach or Diablo. I really love the looks of the Countach but would a Diablo be a better car that I can get at a cheaper price?
different cars not better or lesser the countach is an icon and an LP400S is one of the top dogs...if the diablo is a regular 5.7 or VT...go for the countach (IMO) p.s. yes, there is VERY likely a lot of money to spend on this car...still if it is an S2 (and likely it is)i would buy it at 50k$ unseen, just let me know where i have to wire money
i think is safe to say is worth some more than this in Europe you cannot find a decent 5000S under 100k euro
If so, you have the fire sale price by a seller that has health problems. I would do the same with my stuff in that situation. My prayers go out to that guy.
The VIN number is 1121258 the lady called me today on it. She asked me to make an offer but I said I would have to get back with her. She said $75k and then would take off the price it would take to put the car back in A1 shape. So I would say you could get it for maybe $50k or less.
Randy, That Vin does not sound quite right. Have you run it through as we did on ... I will shut up now.
Well I talked to the seller about this car as well, no way shell take $50k its not her car as well, closer to $70k is what they want. It needs a paint job, has dings, smashed side window, damaged missing dash pod, has not been ran in over 10 years so needs a major and who knows what else. I am doing the math on this car and it doesn't add up too well, there's a nice 5000 on ebay for high 80s with new engine and everything else mint documented that makes more sense for another $15k and its ready to go this one is a year or 2 out from ready plus a lot of unknown variables.
nothing strange about the VIN, the VIN is a correct one and it is a S2 car: interesting and rare car buy it! just try to lower the price as much as you can since you will need money to put it back to shape (much more than 25k $)
At or around that price, with the current U.S. market trends, you will soon be financially upside down with this project.
