I know this might be not the most appropriate forum but because this is a continuation of my 360 Modena saga, i was hoping that I could get advice from the same people who've been helping me so far.

As you know the 360 Modena turned out to be a lemon, and the dealer (Scottsdale Ferrari) was supposed to return my $80k + TTD. Well before they could cut a check (the paperwork got lost in the mail somehow and caused a delay in the refund process, apparently fedex delivered the title that i returned to a private residence instead of Scottsdale Ferrari), I was advised to check out their other inventory. I found a 2006 Lamborghini at a their Bentley dealership in Phoenix which I really liked, so they decided to pay Scottsdale Bentley internally for my 360 (which would now be handled like a trade in, only at the original purchase price), and I would pay the difference for the car (an extra $40k approx, so total out the door about $125k).

The new car is in very good condition. It is missing a few minor things like the car cover, the security code key (used for reset of the vehicle in emergency), and it does not have records, but the overall condition of the car convinces me that it has been well maintained (other than a few rock chips, very minor, it is immaculate, and I have pretty high standards for these things).

So all would be well except for the fact that it is misisng the entire navigation unit. And it was later found out (I called the orginal dealer, not Scottsdale Bentley) that it never had nav as an option at all.

Here is the original ad if you want to see how it was advertised: http://www.penskedirect.com/detail-2006-lamborghini-gallardo-3991277.html
On top of that I specifically asked during the sales pitch and after the sales concluded about nav, and was reassured that it had nav each time.

So needless to say I called up my salesperson (Jeff) and asked him about this. He said oh well, we are sorry. I said how about installing a nav then. He says no cant do it, too expensive/can't be done (it can be done actually but it is expensive, since it was a $2500 option to begin with, and who knows how much to do it after delivery). I said well how about if they refunded me the amt for the nav. He says no wont do that, the margins are too thin. What his manager would probably end up doing is to buy the car back. I don't know why he would do that, except to say that he probably figures that I like the car very much (and I do, btw), and this was a scare tactic. However I also like getting stuff that I was promised. And while I am very reluctant to return the car, I will definitely consider that option if there are no alternatives. BTW I did speak to his manager, who says that he will look into things, so maybe I will get a favorable reply and this post will be moot.

But if not, are there any options that I can take (other than to get my money back and never deal with Penske again)?

I think I would of learned my lesson after buying ONE car that was bad, not to buy ANOTHER from the SAME dealer.... The Lambo has no records? Outside condition, doesn't necessarily mean it is a good car....

I see you have the screen in the car already.... and I'm not familar with the gallardo, but shouldn't the nav be a "plug in" type unit? Similar adding a CD changer? Obviously you would have the antenna to locate somewhere on the outside of the car, but you'd think that they use the same screen/headunit controls....

Research this in the lambo section they know their cars well there-

Do you think there's a chance in hell that EVENTUALLY you'll get a car that doesn't have some God-awful issue? So far you're 0 for 2.

    Your choices appear simple.

    1. Get over it and live without the nav
    2. Return the car to the dealer and get your money back, and then go by a Friggin' Audi. (JK about the Audi, I think.)

That looks like your choices. Anything else is going to result eventually in either 1 or 2 happening anyway, so why not just avoid the drama?

I'm not taking sides here but is navigation really that important to you? If the rest of the car seems to live up to your expectations I would enjoy the car for what it is...

Okay it seems the manager has gotten involved and he promises a resolution. I'll keep posted on the developments. I suspect that Jeff was not being completely honest with me as to my options, from the feeling I am getting from the manager (Brad), they are going to take care of the issue "one way or another". I have my fingers crossed.

There is a big difference between not doing anything to show wear on the car and reaching in your checking account and spending money on a car you might rarely drive.

I know and that is one reason I asked about this when I bought the car. I will admit, that this could be a problem in the future but, I took that risk because frankly the car was being sold on the cheap (you can consider the dealership had already discounted for the lack of records if you like). At 9k, if nothing was actually done (except warranty work, which was done btw), then it missed a few oil changes and adjustments... the thing is I do not know this for sure either way because Lamborghini service depts do not share vehicle service records like other dealerships (notably Ferrari).

I'm not saying if I made a good or bad decision here, I do plan on doing the next major so I will know if something went drastically wrong. I doubt it. My hunch is the guy took the car to a Indy to do the work and never provided the records on trade in, which is what I always forget to do myself.

This doesn't bother me as much as not getting something which I was promised.

The latest update however is that they will probably just refund me the $2600 for the nav unit which is how much that option is worth.

But if you look at the ad the word navigation is listed in bold under the "extensive options list". Someone messed up, so the question is who should pay for it? The buyer? The guy has already been through a lot with his first lemon car, he showed loyalty to the dealership and bought another car from them. Can't they at least cut him a $2k check or something for the trouble?

I think from a reasonable perspective, your damages were the difference in price between a car with nav vs. one without. Sure, it may be a 2600 option on a new car, but that isn't what it's worth on a used car.

I don't think you generally get much of the value of options back (I think you would be lucky to get 50% of their initial value, I think the amount they add to the cost of the vehicle is probably more like 25%).

So on that basis, I would say you could reasonably demand 600-1300 back. Or you could also reasonably expect a nav to be installed if they prefer that (i.e. get a used unit from another car and have their mechanic install it).

I don't know how the relationship has been from the dealers perspective, but I have had 'difficult' customers before and often times when I have had enough, I just offer their money back. There is nothing more fair than a full refund of all monies paid. So I think you need to decide if you're willing to do that if they refuse to give you some consideration.

I certainly think you are owed compensation, just a matter of how much.

I worked with this outfit for 9 years. They are a stand up dealership. Unfortunately, the people who are in charge of things aren't really part of the exotic car world and are more of "metal pushers" but that being said they are very nice, as well as knowledgable... they just don't have the enthusiasm and understanding of how important some of these details are to people. They don't really understand that for many of us a car with no service records is a deal breaker... that thought is very very foregin to them. Dave Zollato is a very nice guy and I am sure he will get you taken care of. IF for some reason you are not taken care of, Penske is a very large corporation... always move in the direction of up. If Dave doesn't take care of you, PM me and I will give you the name of the gentleman to call.

It's tough when an option promised is not delivered. But you do have to ask yourself, "is this a dealbreaker?"
I don't think so. But then again, if it's going to eat a hole in your heart by staring at a blank screen everytime you get in, then get them to install one and don't even insist on the money refund. If you are simply asking for the money back, then you're just trying to get revenge on the corporation and the problems they gave you. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

Buy a Garmin. Being 2006 system it is already outdated. In house Navagation may seem like a good option, but many times at trade in time it is a negative as systems outdateso fast, then what 's it worth. Nothing but a hole in the dash! From what I understand Lambo's system is not so good , lots of complaints. The Gallardo is a very nice car. Almost purchased one prior to the last Modena. Audi has done a great job making an exotic liveable with lots of flash!

I doubt that they'll make up for the cost of the NAV. Go the, get your money back route and see where that takes you?

Just trade it in, if the Navigation is so important. You could trade it in and buy a new Audi R8, that is a great car. You could trade it back in. I wouldn't deal with this dealer again. Also, they won't make up for the 2006 nav. just go to Best Buy and buy a Garmin or "TomTom". Good luck.

Ferrari 599's are the best though.

Get the dealer to buy you a Garmin or portable GPS of your choice .. probably more versatile than the build-in one. Seems a fair trade-off since you like the car.

Speaking from personal experience..The Navigation is useless anyway....it will show you the way to get there but it wont show you the way to get there without scraping and tearing your front bumper off....I like to be familiar with the roads I drive Lambos on (it only takes one nice construction site with those dropoffs)..therefore eliminating the need for navigation.
