Here comes a photo that shows the car when modified by its first European owner, Mr. Goetten, who took it out of Saudi Arabia in desperate condition. Ciao! Walter Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello all just got back last night from a week of traveling, 2800kms, in which I saw 10 Khamsins in 7 days and met even more very friendly owners in Germany and France, I also visited 4 museums in Germany and Switzerland: what an overdose!!! To do better I would need to tackle the greater los Angeles area with a helicopter. Will post photos and details tomorrow as I have an event this evening. best regards, Marc
Sounds great, Marc! If you need someone to drive you to the helicopter in the greater LA area, you know how to contact me Definitely looking forward to the photos! Greets, Alex
Hello all : As mentioned I had quite a week’s travel : 10 Khamsins in seven days ! After seeing AM120016, the destroyed 204 as well as 132 which I had driven in November –three cars which have already been discussed and shown in this thread- I headed to Germany the next day, Friday the 7th of August, towards the Nurburgring Oldtimer GP. There, despite dense fog on the Saturday I was able to find the Maserati club Germany display area and meet a very friendly group: I saw Walter and his nice Merak, met Mr Seume the president of the club who kindly invited me to the Saturday evening barbecue, met Dr Eyben very knowledgeable on Khamsins and saw no less than four of them: AM120328, the car with the modified nose, discussed here recently, owned by Mr Seume: I actually think it looks quite nice in person and I am not writing this because of his barbecue invitation! This being said let it not be a source of inspiration to modify others: an interesting experiment. There was Walter’s old Khamsin: 058, very pretty in blue tan rear glass made opaque and, strangely, a chassis plate on the glove box lid, added by the current owner. Then there was 1238, a US model converted to Euro bumpers which had been sold by famous German dealer Mario Bernardi some years ago. It presents very well despite the bumpers being incorrectly painted partly red. Last but not least was AM120US1264, built December 1977, owned since May of this year by a very nice enthusiast: this car was totally new to me and the new owner confirmed that the previous one was a recluse in the Duisburg area, who had bought it from a dealer in Frankfurt. This car was converted to Euro bumpers, automatic, Blaupunkt Berlin, wood steering wheel although the original wheel is with the car. It is in fair to good condition and the owner loves it and intends to drive it a lot. He has just had significant engine work done , the rear axle and sorted out a damaged steering rod. That evening at the Maserati club barbecue in the forest near the circuit I could not have been happier as I met these Khamsin owners as well as others who were there but without their cars, there was even a lady owner but no she is already spoken for! Excellent food friendly people including pretty German girls. I thought I was in Valhalla! Many thanks to Mr Seume and all at the German club. On Monday morning I drove to Bad Godesberg to see the house up on a hill where we lived 1975-1977 and where my father had brought an Indy, a Merak and a Khamsin home (though I don’t remember that one because I did not get a ride) when I was 11: my first Maserati miles which gave me the virus! I had not seen the house in 32 years, it had not changed except it of course looked smaller and it brought back many memories. Then I went nearby to visit a nearby Maserati specialist who is well known in Germany but does not want to be mentioned in any forum so as per his request no names and chassis numbers (German visitors to this forum know who I mean but please don’t mention him). After a long conversation with him and his technician who both made time for me despite me showing up unannounced the latter showed me the workshop: two Khamsins: my lucky week was continuing! There was the owner’s own car a late production navy blue tan car, chassis number and further information not posted here by request - I don’t betray people’s trust- and a second car I was already familiar with as I had exchanged emails with the owner from Berlin: it is a US model, white black still with its U bumpers, automatic and in need of quite a bit of work, both mechanical and cosmetic. Its owner had wanted to do it himself but has now decided to place it with this garage for them to carry out the task list. Then I drove south to stay with friends in Stuttgart for two days, did the Sinsheim, Porsche and Mercedes museums, a complete overload, then on Wednesday drove down to Singen in southern Germany where at the Singen Auto salon I saw the tenth Khamsin of my week: AM120390 red black, 5 speed 94000kms, which is consigned to them out of a big Swiss collection. It appeared to be a good solid car well looked after even if the front bumper is a bit misaligned and the garage’s plate appears to have been broken off, possibly during a parking manoeuver. Other than that it presented well.It is really in the wrong place as that dealership sells the latest fashionable supercars and is not really a location for classics. It is the highest chassis number Khamsin on the market right now. Then I had a private showing of the Monteverdi museum in Basel Binningen across the border in Switzerland , another very special occasion but off topic. Anyway: quite an enjoyable seven days: it will be hard for me to beat! Photos in subsequent posts. Best regards, Marc
058 is a pretty car, note rear glass opaque. 1238 is nice but the bumpers should be black and silver, not red. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Marc, yes, we all from the German Club know him well! And we are quite happy that he finally left us! He is very GaGa and tells a lot of BS! His work is outdated and "old fashioned" to say at least. Beside his tragic fate (he was severely injurt in a car crash with his Mexico about 9 years ago and is disabled since), this person is always complaining about anybody and everything (and knowbody really knows what he is talking about!)- but doesn`t give any creativ and supporting critizim! I wish him all the best! Ciao! Walter
Marc, unfortunately the new owner Dr. F. didn`t like the original (and lighter) "celeste"-color and decided for a much darker paint job. Also he didn`t like the rear glass! Both are wrong decision -IMO! Ciao! Walter
Here is 328 again with its special nose (it probably never had as much attention in its life as in the last few weeks right here, specially considering the transformation was carried out almost 30 years ago in the early eighties. I took some detaill shots...and included the nose of a Monteverdi Berlinetta, a photo I took Wednesday at the Monteverdi museum: uncanny resemblance no?! The berlinetta was the fastest variant of the front engined 375 series but not the topic of this thread. ...and to finsih with the Khamsins at the Nurburgring here is 1264, the only entirely new car to me in this special week. The rear US bumper shock absorber brackets were not cut out during the Euro bumper conversion some years ago so the exhausts sit a bit lower but that is no big issue: it is now with a great owner and he has brought it out from the hands of a recluse and that really is the issue with trying to do a register. Here are photos of the Khamsin owned by the garage owner I went to see on the Monday morning, they were already posted in public sites previously. I have no photo however of the white black US automatic that was also in that garage.
The photos: obviously I did not ask to take photos at his garage as he would have said no but these were taken at a previous public event: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
and finally another late production European Khamsin: AM120390 at Auto salon Singen. No for some reason why I try to upload them I get this message. "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error." Perhaps you can only post so many photos in a certain amout fo time. I will try to post my photos of it again tomorrow. Anyway you can find that car if you google Singen autosalon and now I have to get busy with other things. best regards, Marc
Hello Walter: Thanks for your time in the foggy Eiffel and for the introduction to Mr Seume. Regarding that garage owner well I understand your point. there are all sorts of characters in the classic car world and for the Registry I am simply trying to gather as much data as possible and so have to diplomatically approach every Khamsin owner I can find... Regarding your ex car yes it would look better in original condition. best regards, Marc
Hi Marc... Sounds like you had a wonderful tour! I was very interested in seeing so many cars at the Nurburgring! Any chance you can tell us how many there were, what models? Perhaps Walter and/or you can tell us where we can find additional photos? Nice job! Mike
Mike, Marc made a fantastic job with the photos posted here! I was busy with other things that weekend. There are various photos on the net. Please google "2009 Oldtimer Grand Prix Nürburgring" Ciao! Walter
Here are a couple of old Khamsin photos I found. Joe Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Mike! It was fun yes though my feet are still hurting several days later from miles of walking at the Ring and 4 museums! I shot some other non Khamsin photos in the Maserati club display and will try to start a separate thread later today. There were some very nice cars. best regards, Marc PS: Another fresh Khamsin unknown to yours truly has appeared, you can see it on www.autoscout.ch AM120326 in the German speaking part of Switzerland: good photos. Might go see it if I go back to Switzerland soon which might well happen. PPS: Alex: regarding the helicopter ride in Los Angeles it would be with pleasure but there is the small matter of the whirly birds cost! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Joe: the top car not sure, the two tone one is beleived to be AM1201222, now in Sweden. The photos you posted were taken at Hershey when the car for for sale by Oliver Kuttner of North Carolina around 1989. He once told me he has had a couple pass through his hands. Auction catalog photo is from Coys Nurburgring 1990. There is a chance there may have been a second car painted like that though: I think it was Magnus who posts here occasionally who pointed that out. Color scheme not original as shown by the earler photos of the car in black when owned by Motorcar Gallery in the eighties. best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, Magnus pointed me towards this discussion. I don't think the two tone car on the pictures here above is US1222 (my car). I base that on the fact that that car already was converted to european bumper specifications. My car was converted at a later stage, sometime after 2005, as can be seen on the photo from Falsterbo 2005, when it had not had the conversion. Further, the all black car claimed to be 1222 is probably not correct, as the interior does not match. I believe my interior to be original in red and black (see attached photo). Hello Henrik S. and welcome! Well as I mentioned there is a lingering doubt introduced by Magnus and now as you point out it is clear we are talikgn about two cars. Also a Swedish journalist (Bengt Dieden) had sent me photos about 10 years ago of a US Khamsin two tone with US bumpers and...white wall tires(!) in an indoor parking lot in Sweden...therefore this needs to be clarified...I think Magnus has a mission: find photos of the other car! Rgarding the photos taken at Motorcar Gallery my ex boss during my Khamsin acqusition period would not get the chassis numbers wrong, trust me and more than one car has had its interior redone completely more than once, such as a Khamsin which received a wood dashboard and later had it removed to go back to normal spec. We can ask Mr Cozza for the details of your car in September after the Italian holidays. So...there is a mistery to be solved here! What is known is that no Khamsins were sold new by the factory in two tone and the only one -only two now- we know about are in Sweden so very intriguing therefore one would assume that the two cars are in a way related, i.e. one man saw one car in two tone and decided to do his car like that as well... best regards, Marc
Having looked at my notes and the info supplied by Magnus the other mystery US car could be AM120US1156 which we know is in Sweden but beyond that....there are two or three other cars about which we know nothing that may still be in Sweden and which could be that other two tone US khamsin... best regards, Marc
....on the other hand there is no proof that the car in the Hershey photos two tone paint Euro rear bumper ever went to Sweden since it is now established that that car is not 1222....and the quest for truth goes on!
