Last week, I posted regarding a Mondial 3.2 which ran rough after sitting out in the rain (but not being driven in the rain). I employed all suggestions posted (basically taking connections apart and drying them), but none worked. I had read somewhere long ago about a "Limp Home" mode which permits the car to run on 4 cylinders when one ignbition system goes bad, and think perhaps that is what is going on. I have pulled fuses to attempt to reset this, but that doesn't work either. Any ideas on how to reset this system?
    Thanks: David Lind

There's nothing to "reset" on your Mondial 3.2 -- if you've lost a bank of ignition, you have a hardware failure (the good news is that on a 3.2 with MicroPlex ignition there are fewer possible causes compared to the DigiPlex systems). Definitely give the dist caps, dist rotors, carbon buttons, and coil wires a look/check -- if all those seem OK, swap the (coil) power modules, and see if the dead bank changes side. If not, then try swapping the coils themselves and see if it changes side. Good Hunting!

David, are you indicating that you do indeed have only one bank firing or you're guessing that may be the case?

If you have one whole bank not firing then the above suggestions are good. If you have both banks firing but the car runs poorly in general then there are a few other things to consider/check. For example, did you check the fused relay in the rr trunk area next to the control module?

EUREKA!!! After testing the ignition components, I determined the rear bank of cylinders wasn't firing. I thought it was the module on top of the coil, but it turned out to be the coil itself. Many thanks to CliffBeer and a few others for their advice.
BTW, when running on 4 cylinders (Cat removed), my car got 2.5 - 3 MPG!

I have a 328 and have been told that if one bank is dead, you should pull over immediately and turn off the engine. Apparently, the dead side is still receiving fuel, which then hits something hot and poof.

With a CIS fuel injection system, fuel is always spraying, as long as the engine is running. Spark or no spark, fuel is continously spraying, hence the name CIS. With a dead bank, all that unburned fuel is going into the cat converter...and will cause the cat to overheat; with a pending fire being a real possiblity. And...all the unburned fuel is not doing the "dead" cylinder bores or piston rings any good, as all of the oil will be washed away by the excessive fuel present.
