With the recenst auction of Dino 03128 and realizing it is a gt coupe that was converted to a gts, it makes me wonder how many of these are there?

I know of one and am having a hard time finding the original emails from the seller that posted in Hemmings in 2007 (?). He spent around $50k converting a coupe to gts form because gts's were selling for around $100k more than gt's in the late 80's.

How many cars have been converted?

How many cars have been converted to a form other than to replicate a gts? I ask this because I haven't seen any, but have to think they are out there.

What photo's exist to document this trend - however small it is?

Matthias, Do you know how many of these conversions are in the US? Do they include the yellow 206 GT with targa top that was on e-Bay awhile back? Fred

    Hello Fred

#00144 is the yellow 206 GT conversion
#06906 seems to be in Japan
all the rest are in the US.

Nobody in Europe would to this to a Dino.
    ;-)

    Regards Matthias

Thanks, Matthias. It is indeed a travesty to despoil an otherwise perfectly good Dino for the sole motive of financial gain. The money would be better spent to restore or help preserve such cars for future generations of owners. Unfortunately, the profit motive for the type of person who would do this is pre-eminent, and very short-sighted. Fred

I was so surprised a GT was so difficult to find when I was searching for one in 2005. I thought it would be so easy to find a good one. Plenty of GTSs, but for a long while no GTs.

GAWD that is hideous, IMO, all the way around. I have a very hard time believing that is a Dino and not a kitcar.

The more I look at those photos, the more they remind me of some sort of amphibian vehicle, perhaps the Lotus Esprit used in a late '70s James Bond movie that submerged in the Mediterranean Sea, only to emerge onto land as the driver tossed out a fish (if my shaky memory serves me well). This gives Roger Moore two connections to the Dino. He was not only 007, the "pilot" of the submersible Lotus, he was also Tony Curtis' co-star in "The Persuaders," in which Tony drove a Dino coupe and Roger drove an Aston Martin DBS, I believe. I haven't been drinking Uro, honestly, but you have given me a valid suggestion! Fred

richard straman did a great targa conversion of a 512 boxer in 1978. car was black . looked like the factory would have done it , 3 vents just like a 246 gts.
