I would like to join the Florida Region Ferrari Club. I am looking at the signup sheet to join. It says to list the Ferrari Model, Serial Number, Year, Body Maker, Body Material, etc. I am too young to own...or even drive one of these beautiful machines. I want to join but do I have to own one? Or even be old enough. I'm 14. Just wondering, thanks.

Good news, Tom! The following was taken directly from the website...

    Q. Can I join the FCA even though I don't own a Ferrari?
    A. Absolutely! Our only membership requirement is enthusiasm. Many first-time members join to research and locate the Ferrari of their dreams.

Tom, you're just the right age to start planning for your first Ferrari.

No, I was an FCA member for three years before I bought mine.

The language quoted from the website reflects the openness and sense of community one would hope to find among fellow members; however, my first attempt to sign up for a fall foliage run was met with - "the spaces are reserved for Ferraris, and unless there's an opening that exists at the time of the event, you won't be able to participate."

So, for $135, I get the magazine. I understand the attitude and really don't object to it, but it was quite contrary to the official position of the Club.

Don't be shy about asking questions here either! (Clearly you can't be too shy if you made this post to begin with :) )

Wow! Your club membership fees are so much cheaper than the fees we have to pay in my country.

Hmmm, must have been a local policy. Each chapter's different and driven by the personalities of the local folks. At ours, it was pretty much open for all...

But how can the slower cars stick together in a convoy when you're going on slightly more spirited drives? Won't they be left behind?

We know where we're headed :D

It's not unusual for our drives to sort themselves into informal "fast", "faster", and "jail-bound" groups early in the drive.

I would guess, it really depends on the chapter. Just remember, you have quite a few old members who also drive these cars. I noticed that most members were over 55 years old. Quite often, the social discussion in these groups is not about cars.

I am sure a lot of owners, would be happy to give you a ride.

    Good point.

It was amusing to see a Pontiac Grand Am with an automatic tranny, actually force his way into our little group of cars. The car was ensconced in the middle of the pack and moved as we moved for about five + miles.

I was a member, caught awesome rides, & photographed track meets for years before I purchased a Ferrari.
