Perhaps someone up here can provide some insight on the following... i was talking to someone today about the 288GTOs and they had mentioned something about how the cars were built well in advance of their release to the public . i could have sworn he said like a year or more. now, i thought that was the case with the f40s but i could be wrong in total. that is they were built, and then for some reason, took a while o get released to the public. was this infact the 288s? the f40s? none at all? just was curious if anyone knows to what this person was alluding. JOE: congrats on what looked like a tremendous event, a wonderful gathering of 288s! what a day you must have all had!!
Thnx Steve, it was a great day indeed, one I wont forget too soon, neither I suspect will my family, and the wonderful group of participants. As regards 288 GTOs being built and sitting around for a year: you're talking to someone with incorrect info.
those are great pics, thanks,,i can't help but think ,those are what 308's should have been from the start
Joe, Congrats on a successful event... Gotta love seeing 5% of the GTO's made in one place at one time! Cheers.
They will if you pass the emission tests. But, to do that, you first have to pass the Federal EPA tests, including the dreaded cold air bag test which is the most difficult for a GTO to pass. Then you run the CA tests. You basically wear out the engine in performing the tests and should rebuild the motor after you're done. Been there, done that. My BAR label is actually a bid silver label that is on the left airbox cover. I removed that airbox cover and replaced it with a NOS spare. The one with BAR label stays in storage and comes out to play every two years for the smog test. I've either been lucky, or have good mechanics, such that we don't get put in the every year testing. What a pain-in-the-butt that would be. Steve

All the photo's are great but this last set is amazing, the sharpness is so amazing I lost myself and kissed my computer screen LOL! Oh god how I would love to be reunited with a 288GTO in the flesh. Is it just me, which I highly doubt, that become's totally engulfed within the 288GTO almost as it is a living and breathing entity? Joe thank you for all the pic's they made my week and I hope my name is on your list for that autographed edition of your forthcoming book. tex ps, Joe I would like to share these images with my friend's from a F1 website I moderate?
