Andretti Green Racing To Get New Name

Updated: Thursday, 20 Aug 2009, 5:52 PM EDT
    Published : Thursday, 20 Aug 2009, 5:48 PM EDT

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One of IndyCar racing's best known teams will have a new name next season. That's because Indianapolis-based Andretti Green Racing is being spun into two organizations.

The racing team will be solely owned by Michael Andretti, while Kim Green and Kevin Savoree take over the spun off portion of the team that promotes races at St. Petersburg Florida and Toronto.

Andretti has been partners with Green since 2002.

Andretti and the crew acted like they didn't even know Kim Green at Mid-Ohio

I guess not surprising considering the huge fall from grace they have had. It'll be interesting to see how Andretti handles it, I guess from the outside I've seen him more as a name than as the mastermind behind everything.

    In further news...

Michael & Marco Andretti blame the Easter Bunny for the breakup of AGR.

Seriously...interesting to see how this plays out in 2010.

Anyone know how important Kim Green's role was at AGR? Details needed!

Green was always on pit lane. Headphones on. Making raceday calls. Not this year at Indy or Mid Ohio. He was there, but?

Well, Michael Andretti did it to himself.
I remember when the team had real drivers; Franchitti, Kanaan, Wheldon, and Herta. All of them race winners, and even Champions. But they all left. (Except for TK), Why they left? I don’t know, but Michael replaced them with one good driver, with the most overrated athlete in the world, with his son and with a paying driver?
I am not the one running the team, but from here it all looks like the team has made some BAD long term decisions.

Wondering just how much he is hating renewing that contract now?!?

I personally was hoping he was going to move to another team when it was contract time. I can't recall how long he signed for and admit to feeling too lazy to research it right now.

I think it was 5 years. if he's lucky (and his attorney is smart) there is a provision to let him out if the team splits/changes hands, etc.

Here's hoping to an Out Clause in there. I would venture to say that this should help Danica make her decision on whether to stay or go. If she stays, I will be shocked.

Well, I know Kim Green is well respected. Many couldn't believe he allied himself with Andretti. On the other hand, Mikey isn't as well liked (hard to believe he's Mario's son)...my guess is the team won't fold, but will be a 1 car operation by 2010/2011.

According to the report on IndyCar.com she's staying. Probably realized:

1.) Wouldn't be competitive in NASCAR and the media would die out quickly
    2.) F1 isn't an option
3.) No one interested in her in the IRL that is better than AGR. At the end of the day, I just don't think Ganassi wanted her, he wants to win.

The pre-race interviews with Michael and then with Danica implied pretty much the same. MA said no deal yet, but they are still working on it.

I was not surprised to hear the new's in his interview, I have never liked Michael because of his HUGE self-righteous ego. The Andretti name is what has gotten him this far anyway.
