The story behind the GTO Reunion celebrating 25 years of the car begun last year when we suggested to Ferrari North America that they stage a better version of the poorly-attended F40 Reunion they put up at Laguna Seca in 2007 (just 7 F40s attended, less than 4% of the cars in the USA). Citing budgetary constraints, they declined to get involved. So we took it all upon ourselves, and it was a collaborative effort amongst owners of the cars in the USA, my wife & I, and a handful of enthusiasts. In the end, we got 50% of the GTOs in the USA there, including some special ones.

Perhaps the message here is that if you love a particular model and wish to celebrate its anniversary, plan on staging it yourself. Obviously, we have no problem with the do-it-yourself concept! Thanks to all who were part of it.

In the pic at right, my wife performs the final count for GTO owner Mike G.

She does, and she is indeed a special person, and I sincerely appreciate the support she gives me on absolutely every level! Without her, the 288 GTO Reunion would not have happened. Now I will have to measure my thanks in carats!

Meanwhile, this pic includes Mr. & Mrs Halford (by the sign) who came all the way from New Zealand just for the event. They own 288 GTO chassis number 56193, the only GTO resident in NZ.

Congratulations for pulling this off Joe.

It looked like a first rate show all the way. Amazing autos, amazing scenery, and I'm sure some pretty amazing people.

    Very well done my friend,

Emilio, I forgot to ask him!

Yes, absolutely great group of owners, and yes, to get 50% of the examples of a particular model that exist within a country want easy.

One of the best stories was Morris K who bought 57223 new in 1985. He flew to Maranello with Jon M (57229) and they picked their GTOs up and drove them out of the factory gates at the same time! Still got it. He showed us pics of them driving down the Autostrada, all the way to Frankfurt, and he showed us pics of 57223 & 57229 in the cargo hold of the same 747 flight he was on (!), the cars booked as excess baggage! As you can see he had to have insurance to drive the car. Both the EE plates and the insurance sticker are still on the car. He has had the car on the old (defunct) Riverside Raceway, Willow Springs and Laguna Seca in the past. Still looks like new.

Joe, Good job. I will be in line for the book also. I was lucky enough to have a friend who got a 288 when they first came out. Fantastic car. One of the best looking and sounding Ferrari's ever. Unfortunately he passed this year but left a mark on the Ferrari community.

Wanted to post a few pics I have taken over the years to contribute . I may be mistaken but believe the # 12 car was the only legit Michelotto modified GTO. I was lucky enough to see this car turning many laps at speed in the 80's.

Cheers Bob, and thanks for sharing.

The #12 car is 58337, engine 279, gearbox 274, new to Tom W on EE.196.AK plates. My notes say: "February 1986, Michelotto".

I believe it is still with the original owner in the USA.
