Has anyone experienced a similar problem? The fuse controlling the dashboard gauges and the radiator fans keeps blowing. The car has had the motor out for some two years (actually it was to fix the dreaded transaxle collapse), but prior to that I experienced no problem with the fuse. Any ideas. I'm desperate to get back on the road!

    Nick,
I haven't seen this problem with a BB. If the problem occurs when the fans turn on, I'd verify that both are indeed running. It is possible that one may be seized for sitting...

Other than that, start disconnecting items from the various circuits...

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

    Best,
    David

As David suggested you coulf have a failing fan motor shorting the circuit out or a short in the wire grounding out somewhere.

Id check that the fuse is snug in its holder and the wires are tight as well concerning the connections, loose wire connections or fuse create problems and can cause a fuse to blow.

If you mean fuse #3 (8A), your description is a little misleading as this fuse actually controls the relays controlling the radiator fan motors (not the radiator fan motors themselves -- they have their own separate 25A fuses). Fuse #3 also controls the "instruments" (i.e., the relay controlling the windows and the dashboard gauges).

My advice would be to physically unplug relay H (the windows) and relays L & M (the radiator fan motors), and see if the problem remains (i.e., the trouble is in the wiring or the dashboard gauges) or if the problem goes away (i.e., the trouble is in one of the relays -- which would be very lucky for you; and therefore, probably unlikely ;)). Good Hunting! Give a shout for what result you get, and, if the trouble persists with those relays removed, I'll see if there's something more on the schematic that might help you track down the flaw.
