I'm 18 and a freshman in college. I am very stable as far as money goes and my family is living above average. But for some reason, whenever I'm not busy with school work, I feel like I should be working to make money. Not with a regular job though, I don't have the time for that. I feel like I should constantly be looking for a way to make a profit from buying/selling things on craigslist or ebay to get the money for thing I want in the future such as a nice sports car or a motorcycle.

I almost feel pressure from myself to get ahead for some reason. this isn't something that truly bothers me, but sometimes it can a little. It's like I want to start a business that I can deal with when I want and when I have the time, but I don't have the knowledge yet or the resources to do that.

Anyone else feel like this? i don't know if it's bad or not?

You feel the spark of being an entrepreneur. Embrace it and go with it.

    ive always been that way

Act on that, it can't hurt. Being able to turn and make a buck is a good barometer of how ingenuitive you are. The Craigslist thing is a good way to do it for next to nothing.

I think it can be good and bad. It is good because I agree with the others that the entreprenuial spirit should be nurtured and you are in a great time of life to start experimenting while you can still afford to take risks. You can't do that when you are older and have more responsibilities.

And I applaud your dedication to studies...it can be a life saver if a business idea doesn't work out for you. You can always turn back to your degree to find decent paying work.

On the other hand I think your life of thinking might be considered "bad" because I think you should put school work as priority #1, but also use your free time to explore collegiate life. Join a entrepreneur class, clubs of hobbies you like, meet women, hang out with friends, etc. instead of being so focused on making money right now.

Of course, I know some kids that studied hard, maintained a great social life, and ran a business. They all (coincidentally? I think not) are doing quite well in life now. Balance is key.

I've had that notion once in a while. Take action. I've been successful with flipping some things or gaining at a great deal....never hurts to earn when you can if you know what you're doing.

To add to this sentiment, don't worry so much about making money right now. College is the only time being poor is socially acceptable because basically everyone there is in the same boat. Back in my day (that sounds so old...) a "date" to Taco Bell meant probably a garden-variety shag. If you sprung for Olive Garden...you'd have a long night ro remember that would probably start while driving back to campus.

Tundraphile Top Tip: Watch out for speed bumps.

If your parents can support you, let them and let them know you appreciate it. Don't take on any extra debt like car payments or rack up CC bills you can't cover each month so that you then have to work.

Study hard and chase as much tail as you can. My regrets from that period of my life are what (who?) I didn't do. Take care of your responsibilities but most of all have fun and create memories, after school you will have the next 50 years to worry about hocking stuff on the internet.

A lot of people identify themselves as entrepreneurial, in that they're always searching for new opportunities, don't want to work for an employer, etc, but they neglect to realize that being entrepreneurial is all about EXECUTION.

I feel like I'm in the same boat right now.

I've just turned 20, came into some money and am looking to invest it in something that will create passive income streams for me.

So far I've been following the BE, DO, HAVE philosophy, working on improving myself now to act down the road, and then receive.

My advice? Read read read, suck up information wherever you can, talk to people, get out there, start small but dream big, you've got your whole life to amass your wealth. Don't be afraid to fail, but when (and you will), learn from it. Then go right back at'er!

    :)

I felt like this when I was your age. I am 43 now and doing pretty well BUT when I am trying to do something that doesn't make money I feel guilty. The last question I asked my wife last night before I went to sleep was, did we make a lot of money today?

So it will never go away and that is not always a bad thing just be sure to get some balance and have a little fun at 18. You are doing the right thing because every dollar you invest now will be many dollars 20-40 years from now and although you have and will hear it a million times and you won't really get it until you are my age, 20 to 30 years go by very fast. To me it seems like just yesterday I was your age.

    Go for it.

My friend sold his fishing boat on Craigslist. He owned it for 4 years and sold it for $500 more than he paid for it. lol Talk about lucky.

    +1.

Too many people going all the way through university these days expexting to roll into a near 6 figure salary as soon as they're finished. News flash people...Employers are looking for people with experience, not some certificate which is totally irrelevant!

In the end though, you need to have the balls to go and start for yourself, not many dare it. I myself could never see myself as some guy who works for another in some office. I'm in the middle of starting my own business at the moment and will start another one in about a year (I'm using some money I'll make from business #1, to fund #2, which takes a lot more capital to start up).

When I've got my 2nd company it'll be an incredibly busy couple of months with a lot of stress but $$ wise it'll be more than worth it.

payday loan side, in CA most you can loan in $255 with a 17.65% intrest which equals out to a even 300 on the next payday. Most people have direct deposit these days, so if they dont come in or try to skip, we can ACH account for next payday, so the direct deposit hits their account right at midnight, so does our ACH. unless they are at a ATM or up at computer and withdraw/transfer funds in that 10 second window....we get our funds, but like in any business there is losses, and people do close their account or are crazy overdrawn, and you never see them again, but its less than 4% even in todays world.

Auto titles loan thou....thats a different story
