Ferrari.com has it at 3,722 lb "Kerb weight" and 3,482 lb "Dry weight" for the European market version manual gearbox. With a 27.7 US gallon tank, I'm going to venture an educated guess that the 599 weighs about 3,548 lbs without gas (European market manual transmission), and maybe about 3,700 lbs for the US version with F1 without gas.

Extra emissions and added structure for the USA crash tests....plus the seats are heavier and a few other little things. It's a good 200+ pounds more.

The weight difference between is accounted for mainly by:

    - Chassis reinforcements with additional sections front & rear in the USA cars, which the Eu cars do not have. Note that some Eu cars have the adjustable suspension system which adds some weight.
    - Body reinforcements in the front hood, within each door, and in the rear hood of all USA cars. The front & rear hoods are noticeably heavier than those pf the Eu cars, which are quite flimsy in feel if you are used to operating a USA car. Also, the addition of bumper strips front & rear in the USA cars accounts for some weight.
    - Interior safety components for USA cars such as automatic seat-belt equipment, slightly heavier 2-piece seats, knee-bolsters etc. Note that some Eu cars do not have glass side-windows, but rather plastic sliding windows, which saves some weight.
    - USA cars have aluminum gas tanks as opposed to rubber bags in the Eu cars. Emissions-control components are fitted to the USA cars. The USA cars have a slightly different gearbox, but negligible weight difference here. Many cars both USA and Eu wear Tubi straight pipes and although not original equipment should be noted as it is a significant weight savings over the large factory system.

Thanks, interesting stuff. Are any Euro cars registered for street use in the US? I figured this would be difficult even under Show and Display.

You're very welcome. And thanks again to Joe for offering his own personal 288 GTO to weigh, and finding "carguys" that were willing to get a little dirty helping me weigh their very rare and beautiful cars!

I believe the Euro's weigh significantly less than the US version so it's not case totally closed. Although it is impressive considering the car has a full tank.

Its also interesting to note that the Euro Scud that Evo Magazine weighed is more then 100lbs lighter then the USA spec one weighted by Bill !! 3137 vs 3029

Surely this cant be down to manufacturing variables.

    Anybody have any thoughts ?

seats. I know the euro Gallardo SL's seats together are about 87 lbs less than the US's Gallardo SL's seats [ combined with both seats ] . Other than that, it's small details.

Yup, I was gonna guess seats too. Euro cars seem to get the option of lighter weight racing seats that the USA rarely gets.

Even on a "light weight" version like the Scud? that's interesting !

Could this be down to the seats not being racing style buckets as standard due to the larger average butt size in the US ;)
