458 Italia no more Manual

Just heard someone from the dealer, there will be no more 3 pedals, I know the Flappy F1 is very matual, surely much faster in the track, but I still a manual hard core.

Just like the F355 the last pop up light, F430 manual will be in definitely be the future classic.

 

That sucks. To the average person the F1 might be quicker on a track, but put a good driver behind the wheel who can heel and toe and it's real close.

BUT. Nothing can match the fun/feel/involvement of those 3 pedals. Not to mention how cool the gated shifter looks.

I sure hope that dealer is wrong. Which wouldn't surprise me....

 

Might be a good thing for the 430 residuals.
I would expect manual 430s to overtake F1s pricewise in the not too distant future...

 

i disagree. the pricing of used 430s is based upon the old supply and demand curves. the reason ferrari stopped production of the 3 pedal is because of weak demand. the F1 tranny on the 430 is an incredible engineering marvel and most buyers are willing to pay a premium for it. i used to think the 3 pedal was the only way to drive a sports car. the F1 has changed my bias!!

 

That's like saying 355 targa's are more valuable than 355 spiders because it was the last targa built.

It's not how rare something is. It's consumer demand. Something can be rare and still not valuable.

That being said, I wouldn't pay too much attention to this rumor until Ferrari makes an official announcement.

 

Except that 355 GTS do demand a premium over spiders and berlinettas...

If the manual has consumer demand, they will build it...if they aren't selling, they won't. Its that simple. If 95% of the new buyers want the F1 its fair to assume that 95% of the used car market will want it as well.... there will be no premium for a manual...

From what I've seen in the 360/430 market is the manual will sell for right around the same price as the F1, just it will take longer to sell.... If you are the first owner, you "get more" since you avoid the costly F1 transmission option, but thats it-

 

Kind of proves my point.
If the manual cars sell for similar $$ as F1s then they already have a premium (what was it? $10k for F1 option?).

 

It's inevitable for all or most cars. Consumers --even "true enthusiasts"-- like to remove some of the driving experience for sake of performance benchmarks. Most drivers of cars would like it if the car drove itself. This is a symptom of the cultural paradigm shift brought about by technology.

And before long if you champion the Victorian Age "3 pedal car" then you are a curmudgeonly luddite and dinosaur.

I'm somewhat depressed if the news is true. Paddles do take getting used to. I've tried them and on first impression found them very alien.

 

Dealers are always the last to know product details so, with due respect, I'm taking this with salt.

It's probably right (there's been a lot of speculation about abandoning manuals) but anyone who's ever worked with car dealers or inside the car business knows they don't know jack. The reason is simple: They can't be trusted with product information before a launch.

 

Get a grip, we Americans are the last of the philistines craving manual transmissions with clutch pedals. The rest of the world has moved on; so will we. The irony is that US drivers are the first to criticize the lack of the clutch pedal but we hypocrites don't buy them in numbers to warrant our criticism. Listen to the sound track on the Ferrari web site; that acceleration bit with .060 sec. shifts is awesome. It's about time we give in. Not me, mind you, but maybe you guys.

I may be old school but for me it’s not a Ferrari without a gate and that wonderful click-clack of a 1-2 or 4-5 shift.

 

I remeber not having indoor plumbing... I always thought why would I want to doody in the house in a room next to my bed!!!! Wow, what an amazing thing called progress....

sticks are going the way of the DoDo, at least for now.... Heck, I could never imagine a jeep wrangler without a stick but when I went and bought one this winter all that was at the dealer where autos with the exception of one lonely stripped down version that had a manual, and they had nearly 50 Jeeps in stock. I even bought the Rubicon edition and could not find a stick anywhere. Dealer just says the demand isn't there.....

Saying that, gated shifters are fun but I am adapting well to maserati and its FI trans

I'm sure there will be no 3 pedals in the 458.
Scud had not, 16 M had not, California had not... ( challenge stradale had not )

Don't forget its a 7 gearbox with dual clutch, that gonna cost the factory to much to build manuals with same experience en acurate handling when there is (low) or no demand.

 

Consumer demand? I doubt there's very little ppl out there like manual Ferraris. I'm sure there's a bunch. Thing is, Ferrari, i suspect are slowly phasing out the manual gearbox.

Thats the reason they built very little manual Ferraris vs paddle Ferraris over the years. Batch by batch, model by model, they're slowly lowering the number of manual Ferraris produced.

This has nothing to do with consumer demand, just embracing technology.

P/s : the F1 tranny does look cool, but nothing beats a stick.

 

Unfortunately there are too few people actually buying a manual. Therefore it'll be to expensive for Ferrari to keep building manual cars.

I'm sure they can make the manual as an option? IIRC for the 360 the F1 gearbox was something like a $10K option. I'm sure they can turn it around. I would pay the premium.
