So I tried to make my own cats, which resulted in a pair of Magnaflows welded to bits of a straight pipe. 5000 miles later they are still working perfectly - attached pics of the cores. I thought I'd try my hand at building an exhaust.

I think I did some metal sculpting as when it came to fit it, I botched it... But not to give up...

I found Nuvolari Engineering, up in the british Midlands about 2 hours north of London on the M1 in Nottingham. Those guys are artists, they design and build custom exhausts for all Ferraris and ship world wide... The number to call is intl +44 (775) 294 1490 or email on [email protected] and ask for Richard or John. Mention to them Marco with the Mondial t and you're in for a discount and a treat.

    What did they have?
A workshop full of great guys working hard on shining steel piping, sheeting.
    A bunch of old scrap Ferrari exhausts from 308GT4's, 365's, 400's, 328's 348's, TR's, 355's, 360's 550's cut wide open and used for patterns.
A bunch of newly manufactured exhausts being shipped to Eurospares and many other well known Ferrari independents (made me feel really confident in them)
A bunch of time to sort me out!!!

    What did I get?
A spectacular exhaust for my Mondial t, making it sound like the venerable 355 sound (true sound pornography and an auditory icon of the automotive industry)

    How much did I spend?
Look at their ebay listings, I can tell you "less than GBP 900"

    Do they ship?
Thinking of all of you out there, it was the first thing I asked, "do you ship to the US/Canada?" he said of course, and we always find the best deal for the shipment, usually less than GBP 150 for overnight delivery.

    Will you get a discount?
Absolutely - tell them I referred you and they will cut you a deal

If they don't have my pattern can they help me?
Yes - if you have an exhaust for them to build a pattern with - eg. US spec 308 GT4's they will cut you a special deal to amortize your shipment costs and the gratitutde for helping them add another pattern to their template stock...

I hope you enjoy the pictures and the sound recordings (don't worry about the video, it is all about the sound...)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmSxYtgI64g - recording of sound while driving

All the best to all of you,

Marco , good information. I have a question , do you know if the 1st picture of the cut away muffler is that of an ANSA system for a 308? If so it looks like the chamber is sealed between each side so the right hand pipe comes from 5-8 bank and the left pipe comes from the 1-4 bank. Is there any way you can confirm this. Thanks again.

Interesting that the cutaway of the 308 exhaust essentially shows no real restriction at all to the flow. True, there is a 180 degree turn but that's pretty common in "performance" mufflers as well. The perforations are not "angled" like a cherry bomb muffler which does reduce flow - they are just straight punchings which, I assume, are surrounded by fiberglass or some other absorbent. It's the first time I have seen a cutaway of one and I'm impressed - there's no real way to improve the flow and still have a muffler. I'd bet money that no aftermarket exhaust will provide the slightest improvement performance-wise over that oem unit. Looks like Ferrari knew exactly what they were doing. Frankly, if I was that company and wanted you to spend your money, I would NOT show a cutaway of the factory muffler... ;)

I would agree that by and large the aftermarket systems would not necessarily improve POWER by themselves. But, the lighter weight, improved durability, and beauty of the performance systems would make them worth it, as long as its engineered well enough that you dont loose power. In a nutshell, if you are looking for more power alone, dont look to an exhaust system. However, if you replace your exhaust system with one that is lighter, and flows just as well as OEM, then you definitely wont lose performance.

I have not installed the exhaust because I am waiting to do a major on the engine this winter. Also, I do not have any sound clips. The exhaust components are stainless steel (304 L). I paid £550 plus £75 for shipping to the states and at a time when we had very favorable exchange rate with the UK (1.4 USD/pound).

    Cheers,
    Alan

Thanks for posting this. I'll need an exhaust sooner or later, and this helps a great deal. Screw paying 3k for an exhaust.

They just replied to me, with a price of $1200 for an F355 Exhaust shipped to the US.
Im honestly contemplating buying one. Its cheaper then a used Tubi...

I've been in contact with John at Nouvalarie and he has been helpful and is going to send a sound bite of their Super Sport model which is louder than the Sport model. It's not the loudness but the tone! I think I will order one I just have to hear both before I make a decision. Tom

Mine is fantastic... After a week and a half, I'm finding myself taking roads with tunnels and under bridges more often... My Mondial t sounds like a 355 and I am quite sure it pulls and revs a little better than before.... But that may be subjective as it sounds fantastic!!!

No discoloration except for a tinge of blueing on the inlet tubes, despite 4 days of solid rain.

You should be able to see an unpolished 355 pot in one of the pictures on page one of this post...
