    As far I know there are a couple early versions of the PS3 that will play PS2 games, but then it was removed. Maybe the PS3 guys more in the know here can chime in and help me/you out.

    One does not buy a PS3 to play PS2 games. One buys a PS3 to play PS3 games, but One would also like the PS3 to play PS2 games so One has fewer electronics to fiddle with.

    I think the 80/60GB models had the option of playing PS2 games but the lower GB models didn't (20GB).

    I'm not surprised. For $300 though, the slim is a good deal (imo).

    I have the 80GB version and it will not play PS2 games.

    i mod chip all of my systems so they will play anything anyway.

    My 60 gig that I bought last year is backwards compatible to some PS2 games but not all, massive letdown for me because that was one of the reasons I bought it. From what I understand PS2 software still sells very well compared to PS3.

    I have an 80gig and it plays my PS2 games. I so rarely play them these days, but its nice to know my PS3 will play them.
