    pretty cool. What recession?!!!

    By Chris Peterson
    Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- A rare 1937 Bugatti Type 57S
Atalante sports car, one of only 17 built, was found covered in
dust and intact in a lock-up garage in the northern English
city of Newcastle, the London-based Times reported.
The 130 miles-an-hour car, which has 26,284 miles on the
clock and hasn't been driven since 1960, is forecast to fetch
at least 6 million pounds ($8.7 million) when it is auctioned
by Bonham's in Paris in February. the newspaper said.
The Bugatti was owned by a local doctor, Harold Carr, who
left the garage and its contents to his nephews and nieces, who
had been unaware of the rare two-seater coupe's existence until
they opened the garage doors; the Bugatti was parked alongside
a Jaguar E-type sports car and an Aston Martin, the Times
    reported.
Of the 17 Atalantes built, four are the property of the
French Musee National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse, and the
others are in private hands. The current auction record for a
car was the $8.7 million paid for a 1931 Bugatti Royal Kellner
coupe, powered by a 12.7 liter aircraft engine, sold in 1987.

    That's really odd.

The owner was enthusiastic enough to have the Bug sign and the poster, but the car went to this state.

Do you think it sat for years after his death or was it discovered soon after the will was read?

It doesn't look bad, considering it's been in storage since 1960. Of course the motor was seized and I'm sure virtually every mechanical and electrical component will need to be rebuilt.

Typical of most "barnfinds," it wasn't in a barn and wasn't really lost - several Bugattistes knew of it's whereabouts. People had been trying to pry the car loose from the hands of Harry Carr for years.

Wonder what the restoration style will turn out to be - the full Ralph Lauren perfection, or just get it running and leave it as found?

If it truly auctions for 8M in this condition, there may not be room for much more - unless some wealthy enthusiast doesn't really care about the bottom line.

From what I've heard, the new owner plans to leave as much alone as possible, inlcuding several incorrect items that were added after the fact. Things such as incorrect bumpers, the luggage rack, ashtrays in the doors and even an incorrect Marshall supercharger will remain intact as a reflection of the car's overall history.
