Thanks for the support Rob. I hope you don't misconstrue any of the comments made herein as some kind of attack on Fchat. Conversely it's because of Fchat that events of this nature are able to gel and come to fruition. We are all grateful to be a part of this community. Let's just put the previous posts behind us and focus on the celebration. :)

Steve, I agree. I'll say it again, this is about getting together as many USA spec F40's together as possible for everyone to enjoy....nothing more, nothing less.

Just started reading this thread and i truly hope all these disagreements passes by...

I would really love to see a perfect event taking place in 11 months. After that i can ENJOY the pictures and stories here on F-Chat...

Just look at last gathering of 288GTO's... A perfect example how it could be...

A Drama Free event, free from leadership squabbling, and exclusionary behavior is what would attract the owners of another 10 or so USA F40s who I know might attend upon my encouragement. In fact this shameless leadership bickering is exactly what leads to rival events, and nobody benefits.

The World Record gathering of Miuras I organized in 2000 was drama-free from start to finish.

The World Record gathering of GTOs I organized in 2009 was drama-free from start to finish.

I guess the good news is that there are 11 more months for prospective attendees to make up their minds. Stay tuned!

I've sent an email to Ron and Marcy highlighting this. Ron is on Ferrarichat, but rarely and most often in the Dino section.

There's that pesky Beatles song popping back up. Just refuses to leave the head or is that thread? I,Me,Mine. Repeats over and over again. Strange it wasn't singing any about the F40 I,ME,MINE though.

Great, Scott (haha... funny if you say it out loud). Even if Ron doesn't want to come down for it, maybe he'd let Art or Steve W. bring it down. I'm supposed to be getting together with Art at Monza and/or Maranello next week, so I'll bug him about it. :)

    Hey Steve.

    You ought to know better.

Statement of fact, is hardly patting oneself on the back, now is it?

    It is.... Statement of fact.

The reason I bring it up, is these things can be brought about without drama.

    Ive done it. Successfully.

Read this thread. And the DRAMA espoused by your so-called "Leader"

Now the question really is: is this event about a clique of people. Or is this event really about the cars, where ANY owner of an F40 can bring one??

    Steve,
I think you have hit upon a reasonable suggestion. Yet you are imho doing nothing but fueling the fire with this post:
As Steve suggested I say take this event private until the detail's are sorted and then go public. I have organised car event's in the past and hope this great idea/event will not be terminated for obvious reason's. Remember that old saying 'leave your ego at the door'?

I hope everything work's out for the best,
    tex

Joe, I do not see any bickering in the thread except what I single handily started. FerrariChat.com is my personal business and besides it being the only source of income for me I am also very protective and emotional about it. All my concerns have been resolved and I can move on. I see no indication that everyone else hadn't already moved on. Again, there are no signs of drama, leadership squabbling, and exclusionary behavior. On the last point I think quite the opposite where everyone is discussing openly in contrast to the GTO event which was by offline contact anyway (which I agree was best because less than 30 cars in US and some more private owners).

I only want the upmost respect and best behavior in this thread. We will heavily moderate any users and posts that fall outside honoring the spirit of this event.

I have some interest, and am on the grassroots fringe in my car-guy-ness. As in change my own oil & brakes, prep my own race cars for the most part, that kind of thing. I sort of like to pose, but am the anti-poseur.

If this is some white-glove, multi-thousand-dollar weekend affair then I will likley not attend. If this is an event where T-shirt clad guys just hang out and spend little more than food, lodging and travel, then I am more interested. A specific example is the Viper Owners Invitational events. I went to the first and it was great. Clean but modest hotel, tour of mfg plant and technology center, drive to an Indy Car race, dinner and informal show at an historic location, and the whole works was maybe $200. In later years the whole thing got stupid with high-dollar entertainers, expensive venues and suddenly it was thousands on top of travel and lodging to just hang out with fellow enthusiasts. I'd rather go to Cars & Coffee or a cruise night. I'll save the money-squandering for racing.

Frankly, I see no reason any of us should pay much of anything more than food, lodging, and travel, as you would think the organizers of the shows, vintage race, and chamber of commerce would love to have something as epic as a large number of F40s converge on Monterey.

So I hope there is not an assumption that ownership of these cars includes a willingness and need to spend a ton of money on "amenities." IMO better to keep it simple with some activities designed to bring the cars together over the weekend, but not some fallutin' pinky-extended mess. Maybe only a lunch or simple dinner together somewhere as the single meal-oriented occasion. Part of this is also that if it is Montery, there is so much going on that I don't want to be tied exclusively to the F40 activities.

Those who want great amenities can always stay at their location of choice and so on.

OK Chief. If you're happy, I'm happy.

For a minute, I thought there might need to be TWO Ferrari F40 gatherings in 2010!

I have a very special F40 I can bring, and about 10 private owners who can consider it....

And you ought to be able to handle the ribbing.

(That's what SHE said! Wait... wrong forum...)

See the smiley face in my original post? Everyone needs to stop taking themselves so seriously around here! Back to having fun with our cars!

To the best of my knowledge, planning for this even has now been taken offline (well, technically it's still ONline, but with emails, and secret handshakes, and decoder rings). I think the best thing to do with this thread at this point is either a) politely ask Rob to shut it down, or b) use the thread only as a cork-board for any F40 owner who is interested to say "I'm interested" so they can be contacted and given the secret handshake and a decoder ring.

Thank you Rob, I appreciate your support of this event and this forum for bringing Ferrari owners together.

The spirit of this event is very high...so far over 20 owners and their cars have committed, many more are in the pipeline and enthusiasm is very strong.

The underlying goal of this event is to bring as many USA F40's and their owners together as possible to celebrate this anniversary and brilliant car.

Joe, you are welcome to bring your car and invite your 10 friends as well, thats what its all about. This isn't about individuals, its about the car and creating an event that fosters friendships long into the future.

    Keith,

thanks for your interest, we would love to see you there with your F40 and pledge to give the participants as much flexibility as they desire. While we are actively exploring block rooms at area hotels for central accomodations, this is more of a service offered rather than a requirement.

The group committed thus far are all down to earth car nuts like yourself...you'll fit right in :)

I'm glad we're back on track, For a while, I got worried that it was turning into a Circus and that would defeate the purpose of this great event.

Ron participates in the Ferrari club events. Here he is on one of my trips where he tells the story of how he obtained the last 288GTO. It was quite touching.

I first bumped into Ron and Marcy at the hotel Fini, Modena Sept 1986 who was one of only a few Factory authorized concessionaires. He had bought a yellow scarf for Marcy and she was exchanging it for a red one.
