Thank you. I think I may need a bit more though but maybe I am wrong. I get a feeling that those cameras will not have the best of quality.

I was thinking that maybe hooking up those cameras they use to film skateboarding or other extreme sports may be a good route to go. I need to be able to have very good remote zoom quality from about 30 yards.

    Hi Ryan

When I hear "high definition" or "HD", I think true HD, which is 1080P. That is an enormous amount of data and I didn't think that the web, as it is today, could deliver that kind of bandwidth. I was listening to a local radio tech talk show and the two people that put the show on were talking about how they collaborated on the show using web based video conferencing. They said that at times it was not possible to do because the web would not handle the data at times of heavy traffic. I am pretty sure that they were only talking about standard definition.

I have a friend that is working on some in person interviews for an oral history project and he is making video of the interviews. He is just making DVD's of the interviews and not trying to transmit them over the web. He just got a new camcorder that is "high def". It seems that the camera records at something less than 1080P and in an odd compression format that not all software will work with. He is not sure of the technical aspects of the video and my interest in video is from the home theater pont of view, so I am not sure what the video he is getting actually is. I think that the camera he has cost less than $1K, but I don't think that it could be called a "webcam", although it must have some sort of video out that could feed into a capture card. I still wonder about the ability of the web to deliver useable HD video.

Well, I don't really know what I am talking about. I just wanted to offer a few thoughts on the subject......;>)
