I was watching The Good, the bad, and the Ugly last night. Got me thinking of the best gunfights I've seen in movies...

    1. Best "one on one" western gunfight- last scene in Shane (Palance was fantastic)

    2. Best "multi-player" western gunfight- there are so many but I'll say the "three way" in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

    3. Best modern day gunfight- deNiro et al bankrobbery scene "Heat"

    Your thoughts...

I think the most memorable gunfight is the one that never happened.

The line "well, do you punk?" is permanent part of American culture and Eastwood became an icon. Dirty Harry is a western in modern times.

One of my favorite movies of all time is "the good, the bad, and the ugly" but you have to give credit also to High Noon where the gunfight takes place in real time for the last 15 minutes of the movie. The tension builds throughout the movie culminating in a surprise and emotional moment in the expression of true love.

Not really a gunfight, but when they level the jungle in "The Predator", always thought it was neat.

Heat is hands down the best one. After I finished my home theater Heat was the first movie I played and I couldn't wait for the gun scene so I skipped forward to it and then went back to the beginning. Anyone seen Heat on a really good set up. I have a pretty nice set up and it's AMAZING on a good set up.

Last scene in "Unforgiven". Eastwood clears out the town saloon, coolly steps up to the bar and downs a big shot, then rides off into the rainy night.

A great redux of the same in "Shane" 35 years earlier.

Another Heat fan. An army officer friend used to show that scene during training of soldiers for town battles :)

"Heat" is getting so much press here, it's now on my must-see list.

I saw "Public Enemies" yesterday. Plenty of well-produced shootemup, relatively little in the way of one-on-one tension and suspense. A solid "B" in this genre.

When you watch Heat shut all the lights off. Turn the surround sound way up and no disruptions.

The gunfight is amazing. Michael Mann at his very best.
