My 82 308 still has the stereo block off installed, I have speakers in the doors and the antenna in the back but it apears to me that a stereo has never been installed in this car.

I would actually like to be able to install a simple stereo so I can hear the music when I want to I want nothing to do with amps and tweeters just a install and turn on and have music.

    anyone dealt with this lately?

please point me in the right direction I was thinking something low key that can use usb or mp3 I saw a few at best buy in the $150 range

A great stereo that looks period appropriate but is new is a Nakamichi CD300. Can be had on eBay for about that.

check out (and possibly add to) this thread if you want to see some examples of various radios installed in a 308.

    IMHO:
I like Nakamichi as well. I just put a Sony in because it has CD/MP3? and bluetooth, and it's black, so looks semi period correct.

If you want to be able to hear the music when you are driving you are making a big mistake not installing an amplifier. If you turn up an unamplified sound system loud enough to hear it there will be too much distortion. I just installed a new system with an amplifier and I can finally hear the music when I am driving. Doesn't matter which amp you use, you just need one.

I have a Blaupunkt San Remo in my Mondial
Basic cheap model, red back lighting
    Plays mp3 disks
No usb connection but you can run an FM transmitter
Makes enough power to use up to 60mph with the standard speakers
    Easy installation

You may have already done so but before you bother, see if you can ride in another 3x8 with a radio. It would be good to do that to determine if you will get what you hope to get. I have found that the radio in my 328 is not useful at all at any velocity much above parking lot speed! :)

Sure, you could put a huge amp in there somewhere but the issue IMHO is simply the noise. A large enough amp and speakers to handle it might overcome the engine/road noise but then the "music" is so loud that IT becomes noise.

I put the Kenwood model with the G-Analyzer built into it in mine, seemed like a good excuse to upgrade the stereo.

I'll buy your block off plate if you don't want it. I just bought a 308 and I'm removing the stereo. You can even have my stereo for free if you want it.

My block off plate is not for sale or up for grabs.

I only want a stereo for that once in a while when I need some music.

I have never been big on car stereos its just nice to have one once in a while.

    thanks for the link

I have the same issue in my 308 (no radio - block off plate). I thought about putting a radio in it, but taking a small boombox with instead and putting it on the passenger floor seemed like an easier option.....

When I did my 3000 mile trip from Vegas to Md in 3 days I did it accompanied by an Ipod and Bose noise canceling headphones. Radio was useless at interstate speeds.
