Hi guys, What should I do? I fell in love with a 2007 Titanium Silver on Red 599GTB. But it means I have to sell my 575. Big decision as a new 599 costs USD 870K in my country. So I have to add quite a bit. Hendra
Hendra- I think a lot of us here would trade for a 599 if we could afford it, which I cannot. Not as pretty, but the performance is unworldly and the 599 looks meaner. If you do, save some money to add some of the HGTE kits. Taz Terry Phillips
I though Ferrari is all about passion, the h--- with $$$. I never would have spent the money if i had considered common sense
Mitchell- Maybe you are rich, but quite a few of us are not, including me. In many cases, including mine, we have the most Ferrari we can almost afford. Passion is why we own them, money is how we buy them. Having bought my first one in 1975 (Dino 246 GT) on a 1Lt's pay, I have a pretty good idea for both the passion and sacrifices (money) involved. Taz Terry Phillips
Old guy just having a little fun. True at one time i had a little cash but that is all gone. Now comes tough times for me and maybe all. I just came off a three month downturn, but i digress
Hendra, somehow I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for your dilemma. Either way you win! As they said back in the 60's, if it feels good, do it.
I had the opportunity to drive a 599 a few weeks ago; if I had the money laying around I would do it in a moment. Unfortunately, not me. Got a daughter that needs an education. Good luck with that problem. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
fou- You are really lucky. I have never even seen a 599 since I live in the hinterlands. No doubt the 575M is prettier, and no doubt the 599 looks meaner. Plus it really is meaner with the fast pedal down. Maybe later I will be able to afford one. Mitchell- We all took a pretty big hit in the last two years or so. The ones who did not are pretty good at the money game. At one point I thought I was, but I no longer flatter myself that way. If I had not bought my 575M when I did when the DOW was ~12,000, I would not have been able to afford it. Taz Terry Phillips
wow, that's a big chunk of change...... i had a very hard time justifying mine at 42% off msrp (used) but you only live once..........
I feel the same way. I have a big part of my modest net worth in my 2 cars (I couldn't afford a used 599 even if I wanted to). It may not be smart, but I enjoy them more than money
Grant- Amen. Really helps to have a wife with a sense of humor. Plus one who loves Ferraris. Jan's favorite was our Rosso Dino 246 GT 02984. Long gone and now Rosso Chiaro with chairs and flares. Taz Terry Phillips
If you can do it financially, there is no dilemma. The 599 is simply a great car. IMO the best production Ferrari ever made. I loved my 575, and enjoyed the Superamerica even more, but the 599 blew them away on every measurement, objective and subjective.
Alex- I agree, and I have never even seen one. Plus the chain drive and one generation later electronics make them even more reliable than the very reliable 575s. Do you still have your 410 SA? They have to be the prettiest street Ferraris ever built. Taz Terry Phillips
Alex- Kind of like my Daytona, at least you have the memories. Most of us can never aspire to a car like your 410. 599s may get there for us, but the 410, never. Taz Terry Phillips
Hi guys, Thanks for all your inputs. Like most of you, I think that the 599 is just so pretty to look at and drive. I went to see the car again yesterday and its calling out at me. The dealer is calculating how much I have to add to get the 599 (have to trade in the 575). Lets hope that I can afford it. By the way, the dealer actually recommended me to go for the 458. Wonder what you guys think of that? Its USD 700K down here. Its probably a more hardcore sports car than a 599? Regards, Hendra
Hi, I have a picture of a 410SA and a 575 Superamerica in my computer. I got it from the internet. Are those cars yours? Very very nice cars, and the house. Hendra
Hendra- Yes, that photo came from him and it is one of my all-time favorite photos. The 458 is nice, but a 599 is going to be quicker. With HGTE, it will be quicker on a race-track, too. Henry is right, nothing beats a V12, especially an Enzo-derived V12. Taz Terry Phillips
Hi, I live in Indonesia (South East Asia). Taxes are very in Indonesia (South East Asia). Taxes are very high here especially for big cc completely built up cars. But malaysia and probably Singapore has higher taxes. My neigbour just bought a Lamborghini LP 650 Roadster for about US$1.4 million. A brand new 599 is about US$ 870K. Regards, Hendra
