Which F1 transmission is better 360 or 430

I have not tried a 430, but the 360 I tested shifted more slowly, and more jerky, than I do with a manual. It was very disappointing.

OTOH, the rev matched downshifts were nice. I'm still pretty lousy at the heel-toe maneuver.

Just drive one. You'll know within a couple of miles if it will be satisfying or not.

No question, the F430 gearbox circa 2008 and up is the best yet. Every earlier version of an F1 box is poorer than the one it was replaced by.

 

My 360 experience has been just the opposite. There is nearly universal agreement that the 430 F1 is superior to the 360 but I must admit that my '02 360 F1 has always performed perfectly. Astonishingly smooth -- MUCH quicker and smoother than any of the 3-peddle cars I've owned over the years. In fact, noticeably smoother than any slushbox automatic I've ever driven. There was a major F1 TCU & software upgrade with MY '02 so maybe you drove an earlier 360?

Now if you want the most fantastic transmission of all, try a California!

I own a 355 F1, have driven 360, 430, CS, 575 M, and scud. Oh, and Gallardo standard and SL, and Murci, and Maserati too. And new BMW M3 DSC. And Audi TT with the DSG. Oh yeah, and the GTR.

And they are all a little different. So the best thing to do is drive the ones you are intested in.

My 2000 with a CS tcu shifts perfectly. The 430 is even better IMHO. the E-diff helps it's cause. I've always said I'd love to have a 360 with 430 running gear.

 

Every F1 generation is faster and smoother than the prior generation. This fact is well documented in the automotive press. Furthermore, I have owned each F1 generation (355, 360, 430, 16M), and can unequivocally state that they continue to improve.

Was there any transmission differences in the F1s amongst the 430 model years? Did the 2008s shift better than the 2005s? If so, then what led to the improvment? Some kind of software update or was it mechnically involving.

So it stands to say that the earlier (MY 2005~2006, 2007?) cars can be brought up to current transmission specs of the 08+ cars? All one has to do is ask the dealers to reflash the programs?
