Hey there... I've been flirting with the idea of getting a ferrari for the past few months having just sold my Z4 3.0 which i had been driving for 3 years. I cam close to getting a 456 but thought better and now seriously considering the F355. I can't seem to decide which one to go for - the berlinetta, GTS or the Spyder. Obviously my choice is highly dependent on what's available in the market right now and there's not much. JT cars has a GTS in stock and there's a yellow one for sale somewhere else.. i think. Anybody knows of any available? Any advice? The 355 is in my price range as the next model, the 360 is a bit steep. I know the price of the 360 is dropping but hey... its still a lot!

any thoughts, rants, advice is much appreciated

    cheers!

I was looking @ 355s as well & price seems very reasonable now while it also sound sweetest IMO. Whatever car it is, get it to a reputable workshop or agent for a complete run down check. Cheap is good but some owners may not take good care of it & resulting in premature wear that can be very very expensive to fix.

GTS have a tendency to leak. I would not touch them & old cars tend to have flexed chassis & worn seals which are worse. Water will sip into the crevices & cause rust in unseen areas that can be expensive to fix. That's my personal preference.

By now, I would save for a 360 which is lower in maintenance & younger by virtue with better handling & power. So, in the long run, they could both be equal. I'd rather be driving it than let it sit in a workshop for months.

PM me, we could go shopping together :D

hey .. sorry for the late response. I had to leave town for about 2 weeks and forgot all about my post... although the 355 is always in my mind.. hehehe. I saw a spider at glenmarie before leaving and suspect its been in the showroom for some time now. They are really keen to unload it for $310K but i was driving a convertible (2004 Z4) for four years and not keen on another one... sigh. I even spoke to the guys at JT cars and they say a good (accident free) 355 berlinetta is not only rare but seller's will demand up to $400K! At that price i might as well consider the 360...

    aaaiyah!

    Baik! A 360 for about RM400K? I want too :)

Now I don't mind a spider but driving that around KL & parking the soft-top gives me jitters. Price sounds good though, how's the condition & where's this glenmarie?

admittedly a soft top can be a problem.. i had a cigarette burn on my Z4's soft top from parking in bangsar.... but luckily the hydraulic and my mileage after 3 years was 15K so auto bavaria changed it for me FOC!

The place is called ultra tune and its behind the porsche showroom in glenmarie shah alam. They also service high end cars there. I saw 2 gallardos, a couple of F40's, 360's a 308 and a few models of porches in their service area. Damn fine cars there...

I'm back in KL on friday and gonna head on down there over the weekend. I told the dude that if the car is there after 3 weeks then it must be mine... hahaha. I'm almost regretting saying that.. Kok Ho at JT cars says it's been in th showroom for some time now... nice condition... 2 more years on valves and belts and pretty slick. The hydraulics on the soft top is a bit dodgy tho'... it kinda broke down when he was demonstrating it, but got it working again..

maybe i'll also visit the dealer in bangsar as well.. keep my options open. I saw a beautiful Dino there a few months ago.. I know not what to do..... damn!

Dude u need to ask these technical questions in 355 section & the Malaysian owners are not active or non-existant in Asia section as well.

I spend a fair bit of time in KL so I can share a bit.

There are at least 3-4 F355s for sale now so you need to shop around. There are also a few 3rd party workshops that can do the belt, clutch, service job as well. I keep contact with an ex-Nextcar mechanic who can do your car for a small fee. Parts can be ordered from the sponsors here.

Rule of thumb is 3yr engine out belt job but some owners stretch way over 6yrs without issues. You need to dig around for service history & it is not easy in KL unless your dealer knows the history & honest about it which is nearly impossible. In fact, I know more about my car than the seller!

JT should have good contacts or look for Joe @ the exotic cars dealer in Bangsar. Mofaz & a few others do Ferraris as well. Just buy the bi-weekly car classifieds for info.

Get the Vin nos & check with nextcar's records if possible. Got to grease mate ;)

dude... since i 1st posted the message, i've seen quite a few F355's - Berlinettas as well as spiders. There are a few that's been in accidents and 2 accident free ones but the asking price is way above the market value of the acc free cars.

I reckon between $280-300K is a fair price... any higher is asking too much.

Its a sellers market right now for the F355B, wait till next year and the price should drop a bit more and every couple of months one or two will appear in the market.

$300K sounds like a very good deal to me! Geez did I overpay for my 456? Anyway, I want 2+2 so guess that's my only choice here.

I pass by that Bangsar dealer once every few days but never had a chance to speak with them. Saw at least two 360 & an orange GT3RS there last night.

    Guys,

For a 355 in Malaysia, It's not the price that's the critical factor , its whether you can locate a good car to buy... one that is accident free and with full service history...

You can debate the price and no car in your garage..

    cheers

Ks, yes, I go agree with you. That's why I paid top dollar for my 456GT.

The problem in Malaysia is that I see so many chopped up & "legoed" cars that I don't know what we're getting these days & you know all the kind of engine, chassis, cabin swap deals that is going on too! And I'm referring to Porsches, BMWs etc.

I've been showed several cars that are for salvage & these are valuable cars.

The car dealers are never going to tell us the full & clean stories....

    Long search? :)
A cheap ferrari is a crap Ferrari.
    I chose a F355 over the F360.
A good GTS impeccably maintained will be fine and won't leak or rust but expect to pay the top end as the maintenance costs reflect it. Properly serviced at 3k miles , according to F schedules.
On the other a neglected one will be cheaper, bills may start after buying.
If you struggle to buy you probably can't afford to run it.
