Given all the current comments about the possibility of FA driving for Ferrari next year, I'm surprised that we don't have a lot of discussion here regarding this.
There have been a lot of comments in the past by people here who don't like him (and I didn't either when he was beating our team), so it will be a major change of attitude. No question but that he does have talent, though.
Do people who know more about this than I do think it will come to pass?
If so, how do you think he would team with Massa? I can't see either one of them accepting a subordinate status with the team, so we'd have 2 hard chargers.

There has been quite a bit of discussion, usually embedded within other threads. In fact, many here have discussed Alonso coming to Ferrari for several years!:)

    |I can see him coming in 2011, when Raikkonen has retired.

I personally rate Raikkonen about the same as Alonso (if not higher), so it'll be a big mistake on Ferrari's part (money wise) to get rid of Raikkonen early.

The recent happening with Alonso's win at singapore has put a big dent in my gaining respect for him. Since he left Mclaren he seemed like a nice chap again. You're not telling me that Alonso didn't know about it, he isn't mentally retarded. I just can't believe he seemingly needed Piquet to crash out in order for him to get a win (granted, he won the next race without any help).

Its a bit like Schumacher going to Ferrari. Many people disliked him for some of his actions (villenueve, hill. Although Hill did almost exactly the same to Schumacher earlier on in that season!) but people still cheered for him. I was only 8 at the time of the villenueve incident and already a Ferrari fan so I didn't know any better.

Whoever he's paired up with when he's driving for Ferrari I'll be rooting for the one who isn't Alonso. My dream is it to be a Raikkonen/Alonso battle (with the team NOT favouring Alonso over Raikkonen, equal partnership!) for the sake of seeing Alonso throwing his toys out of the pram only...

As well as Kimi has been driving, and with Alonso being at least peripherally involved in
Flav-Gate, why would they hire him? He's a brilliant driver, no doubt, but he has a lot of baggage both now and in the past (remember the McLaren debacle?).

Haha it wouldn't surpise me but have you counted them or something.?

The fuss at Renault has halted proceedings methinks, which has in turn stopped all the other players making there moves IMO

FA going to Ferrari well IMO he will end up there when ..we will have to wait and see.

When there, when he wins there won't be a fuss, if he doesn't and his team mate whoever that is or will be beats him..that may well be a different matter.

Personally I don't care, he is a very good driver probably the best in F1 right now, I see the + and the - with him, if you want one of the best in a Ferrari look no further. It just depends on your own thoughts on the whole package and baggage that comes with a driver.

I'd say Kubica would be a much better choice. Allthough I heard he was considered to stand in for Massa but was found too tall to fit the F60..

    No discussion.
In fact on 15 November in Valencia , in the occasion of the Ferrari Days, in presence of Emilio Botin and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, they wiil show Fernando Alonso like a Ferrari driver for 2010.

If true, may the smoke from my burned Ferrari F1 paraphernalia been seen far and wide on that day. A lot of people speculated an announcement was coming at Monza and I had the lighter fluid ready. Perhaps Massa's incident and Singapore gate delayed that.

    What's your source?

The valencia thing was scheduled before the F1 season even began. Ferrari could not have decided before the season even began that Kimi would leave. What would have happened for instance, if the F60 was still quick (like it was before the beginning of the season before the FIA said the KERS had to be somewhere else) and Kimi became champion again...Just sack him despite winning another championship?

I'll be sad to see Kimi go, especially if Alonso replaces him.

That thing in spain might just be related to the santander sponsor, not necessarily
    Alonso.

But, if there was nothing going on the line up would already have been anounced, so i don't know what they are thinking.

    My source is safe.
The Ferrari Days this year's are the Ferrari World Finals which take place in Valencia.

What better place to introduce the new driver for 2010.

That's not what I meant. I already know the FWF are taking place in Valencia.

It seems odd to announce Fernando out there though. There's hardly any public.

Good point. I think it was David Hobbs in yesterday's race broadcast that mentioned Kubica and questioned why the talk of which-driver-will-go-where was never centered on him. I hope Kubica does find a good ride for next year. I think he is a talented driver.

Because Ferrari does not have any seats available. Alonso will in fact go to McLaren to replace the crash-prone Hamilton. You see, McLaren will always have to do one better than Ferrari. The reports are currently being prepared by the very knowledgeable Spanish journalists who have secret insider info from Santander. And the Italian press is salivating to regurgitate the Spanish shi...err...material.

Look at kubica last season. He was a worthy contender by being consistend. If it wasn't for BMW pulling the plug on the 2008 car halfway through the season he would maybe be world champion...

Straight from Kimi's mouth, and it's one of my biggest reasons Alonso will be better for Ferrari than Kimi.

yeah that's why your mighty alonso is contending for the wdc this year right? wait..he doesn't !

Give a car that suits the driver is the purpose of F1 teams, do you think the scuderia would
have created a car for Schumi or just ask him to deal with whatever they come up with ?

Uhh, Kimi isn't contending for the WDC this year either so I'm not really sure what your point is there. Plus, as ****ty as the F60 may be, it's still better than the Renault car.

You'll never be able to give a driver the perfect car. They'll have issues here and there. Without a immediate and great way to fix them (due to the testing ban) would you rather have a driver who only drives the car well when it's perfect or a driver that will give his all AND help develop the car as it goes? Schumacher did that, and Alonso has the same proven capability. Kimi, on the other hand, openly says he only drives well when the car is absolutely perfect for him.

A lot of the Alonso--->Ferrari discussions are operating on the assumption that Massa is 100% in the clear to make a return. As of yet, we haven't heard anything confirming that. And honestly, the way the flow of information has been handled up until now regarding his crash/injuries/recovery, I have to see it before I'll believe it. So...

What if...Massa can't return? Then Ferrari would be sure to retain Kimi rather than buy him out. That would probably submarine any thoughts of Alonso coming to Ferrari next season. Kimi and Alonso? Fat chance. For a team widely suspected of making a significant driver change next season, Ferrari have been deafeningly quiet on the matter. Monza has come and gone, the traditional time to make big announcements. They're currently hedged with Kimi signed through 2010 and Fisi happily signed and willing to do anything they ask.

From what I have heard, there is more of a story to Massa's condition than being let on, which would explain the foot-dragging going on with regard to the whole supposed Alonso signing.

I don't know how much weight the Santander sponsorship carries in this deal any more. While you would think they want to follow Alonso, it isn't as if they've been his personal sponsor all these years. By sponsoring McLaren, they have increased their presence in the UK which is good for the bottom line. Ultimately, that is the purpose of sponsorship and it makes sense for them to renew.
