It's funny to read the 458 posts now as many of the people that rip on the Cali design are unhappy with certain design elements of the 458. I have to laugh as one of the threads has the Cali nose PS'ed onto the 458 body as they try to "fix" the design. The California is a great design; a step up in engineering skinned by beautiful metal. Beauty is subjective, the Cali works for me.

I saw some during the Pebble weekend. I changed my mind, I think they look good in the flesh, though still a little portly at the rear.

Same law in Texas...but no one I know--obviously not everyone--with a Ferrari even considers ruining the look of their car, much less drilling holes into the body work, just to put on a license plate.

None of my cars--daily drivers or sports/exotics have front plates, and to date--at least 15 years--I've neither been stopped nor been ticketed for the "front plate".

In my opinion, if you can afford the car, you should be able to afford to risk the cost of the ticket--its not a moving violation so what's the cost, a Benji or two IF by chance you get caught?

Another option: most laws require "display" but not a specific location, so at least in Texas, one might simply keep the plate under the seat or floor mat and if stopped, slide it onto the dash before the officer gets up to your car. It'll be legally displayed but there's no way he'd have been able to see it until he next to the car. :)

This subject comes up every so often on this site. As you can expect, most people take your side, but some get fed up with the continued aggravation of getting stopped by police officers for not having one and find somewhere to mount it. Also, in many big cities, police officers will write tickets to cars parked on the street - even those parked legally - for lacking a front plate.

Attached is a photo I took in 2007 of an F430 Spider where the owner did just what you suggest is unthinkable - drilling holes in their front bumper to mount the plate. Severe, but it just goes to show that solutions to this problem run the gamut!

Front plates often mar the look of sports cars, like a tacky billboard. I don't get why front plates are even necessary.

They are cracking down because of these cameras to get speeders and red light runners. They want one photo that shows the plate and the driver. If they don't get the plate, they don't know who to ticket.

    So, blame the stupid cameras.

Yup, it is the cameras in CA as well. It is the law here to have the front plate, but woth the occasional fix-it ticket not to drill holes in your bumper... :D

The fact that there's a front plate doesn't bother me nearly as much as the FACT THAT ITS A NASCAR PLATE!
