Thanks Marcello. BTW my reference to "in Germany in 2009" was just for the Modena Trackdays...

    Thanks!

ZFPA16B000055165, new to Michel Sedoux/France, reported stolen (per Marcel Massini as noted earlier in this thread), later Vaude/Swiss-registered VD.1552.U, for sale last year with approx 7,000 km recorded, now French-registered 984 EYG 95. Seems like it has a new enthusiast home.

Joe, I've always been interested in learning about stolen art (such as the 1990 Boston heist of a famous Vermeer and one of Rembrandt's most famous pieces). So it got me thinking....

How many stolen 288s are there unaccounted for at the moment? Is such a number available?

Surely they are not broken down for parts, they must be in a garage somewhere. Wouldn't you think?

Stolen 288s would be an interesting set of statistics to have.

At that time, I didn't look at s/n. So, should be the same car according to your infos.

Question for Joe or anyone else who might know.

In the photo attached to post #678 you can see the wastegate in a similar spot to that of the F40. However the F40's unit discharges to atmosphere through the centre pipe of the 3 tip exhaust setup. Where does the 288's wastegate connect too/discharge?

Into the exhaust muffler which is hidden from view by a heat shield as you look down at the trailing end of the engine bay.

I saw that particular 288 GTO yesterday at the Kirkland Concours and wondered about the significance of the license plate but it makes sense now. I took quite a few pictures and will share them with you folks soon.

My understanding is that less than a handful of 288 GTOs were reported stolen in the 1980s, when the cars were relatively new, and all have been recovered.

Marcel Massini deals with this earlier in the thread, and I also have a note of the chassis numbers but wont publish them here.

One well-known German owner's car was stolen in Europe. Interpol were alerted and the car showed up in Los Angeles, whereupon it was promptly seized, and returned to the owner in Germany via a trip to the factory to ensure that all was well. Ironically, that car is back in the USA, having been sold here.

Back in the 80s, exotic car theft was a real issue, and there are stories of Ferraris being stolen right off the delivery transporter even before they could get to the dealer's premises!

288 GTO parts manual. I came across one yesterday at a book sellers. Seller say it is original and looks that way also. What would this be worth and are they hard to find?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Blue 4-ring binder ? 331/84 numbered - there were only a few hundred printed so at a guess five hundred bucks ?
