I parked my 612 at one of of the nicest neighborhood shopping centers, left windows opened about 3/4, locked the car, and came back one hour later. I probably stayed about 30 ft away from the car. As soon as I turned on the engine, a blinking "Attempted To Break In" was displayed on the TFT screen. I was so surprised (not because that someone indeed was "attempted to break in" but the fact that Ferrari does have those kind of messages). But anyway, out of couriosity, I went thought the Manual (as expected, unable to find this "message" in the book). So I locked the car, left the windows half-opened as earlier, then tried to open the door. No alarm, no nothing. Then I unlocked the car, turned on the engine: No message.

    Has anyone experienced this?

Whoa........isn't' it kind of late for April fools joke?
Anyways, putting the jokes aside, it would be very interesting to find out that Ferrari do put these kind of msgs on the on-board computer.

I saw this once on my '08 599 after I messed up something with disarming the alarm after it had been parked.

It just means that the alarm was triggered by a motion sensor. It happens when you leave the windows open and lock the door.

I was sitting about 30ft away, and heard of nothing. No alarm for sure.

That happens quite often to our 599.

Sometimes all it takes is someone shutting their door next to the 599 for the alarm to actually go-off...

The 599's alarm seems to be very sensitive.

Did you perhaps pull on the door handle before unlocking the car with the alarm button? Sometimes the car records an attempt to open a locked door by displaying the message when you get in.

You might be surprised. I've never heard the alarm on a 612, but in my Audi you wouldn't be able to hear it from 30 feet if you were in a building, and I've had the same issue. Occasionally I would park the car with the sunroof open and I would return to it and the alarm would be going off. I couldn't figure it out until I read about the motion sensor in the car.

Supposedly on older BMWs, the movement of the sun would set off the alarm. I read that a long time ago, though, and I'm not sure of its truth.

No, I did not. When I got home, I did try to pull handle before unlocking the car, just to check if the message would display again, but no. I forgot to mention that when I got back to the car, there was an advertising business card inserted by the driver's window.

612, 599 and QuatroPorte all have a button to dissable the interior motions sensors (ultrasonic sensors) for the purpose of parking with the windows open or a pet in the car and also have an inclination sensor dissable button in case of ferry or train transportation. both are located in the overhead console. If the Alarm is triggered by any means the notification will be displayed at the next vehicle start.
