You know, being a Car Quy can be a female dog at times. It seems that you can never be satisfied with what you have or have had.

So lately, I've been having visions of building a street legal Trans Am replica, and I have always liked Camaros. So talk dirty to me. What years, options and so forth should I look for? I don't really care about a "numbers matching" blah, blah, blah car. I just want something with a honking V8 that can actually steer around a corner.

    Thoughts?

    buy a z06? :D

I assume you mean a late 60's Camaro, right? If so, you can probably find exactly what you're looking for through the muscle car brokers/auction companies without undertaking a time and money-intensive project.

Can't go wrong with a '69 Camaro-Penske/Donohue won the TA title with it, many think its the best Camaro built and they can be made to handle very well.
Contact the guys at Hotchkiss, Guldstrand, Global West, etc for some idea of what's available to get them around a corner.

Have a skilled body man subtly "puff" the fenders for tire clearance, throw a set of the new Minilite wheels on it, with 4wdb, add a stonkin', high revving 302 and you're good!

Paint it that deep Penske blue with some hand painted yellow pin stripes(just like Roger did it), find a vintage Racemark steering wheel, some label less(Sinpson and others will do it custom if you ask) belts with the old aircraft latch style, vintage SW gauges, etc, etc.

Puleaze. The current crop of fakey do do cars are so ugly, you couldn't give me one.

Yeah baby. Jus kept it street legal (somehow) and this is the message.

    Sweet

Great looking, but for that kinda dough, I'd buy my old Maranello back.

sure, there's a lot of crap out there, but also a lot of great cars (as evidenced by other posters).

I saw one very similar to this one at one of the car shows here this summer. I believe it was for sale for something in the low 40's but it was perfect. When the owner fired it up the engine had that really nice raspy lope to it. You know, the kind that you can feel when someone pulls up next to you at a light with a nicely cammed engine.....\

I have seen some others that can be had in the teens if you could put in some dollars to bring it back up. My fear of those is that with it being priced in the teens that some "teen" may have been driving it the last few years...

Some of those are pure race cars, some are fiberglass too. Doubt that is what the OP is looking for.

They all have license plate frames and a couple are OEM looking. Just representations of value in today's market. Nothing more.......

    Al --

Can someone point me in the right direction to find out more about 60s-70s Camaros. For example, I recall that either the RS or SS badge was just cosmetic stuff, but I can't remember which one.

'67-'69 RS cars had hidden headlights. '70-'73 RS had the split bumper. Could also have an RS/SS ...
