With my 360 in pieces, I stumble across a 430 spider I may go after. So, I have an idea in my head of what the car should sell for, and without me giving the asking price from the get go (I'll post it all up once some of the players here have chimed in to see if anyone knows this specific car) what would you offer, and what would accept as a fair price, for the following car:

2007 F430 spider, F1, 3500 miles, steel brakes, Daytona’s, shields, factory rims, carbon interior package, all books, keys, tools, car stated in as-new condition, etc...

JFYI, while I cannot comment on a 430, in my recent purchase of a 360 I found that private parties wanted at least $10k more than dealers did for comparible cars.

Ok I'll play.... 2007 F430 Spider? hmmm.... 185k? I've seen them floating in the 190-200k range, and while there is probably some room, can't say there are discounting them dramatically.

I've been looking at coupes and can tell you that when you get someone on the phone the asking price is nonsense. Yeah I'm asking $XXX,XXX on Fleabay but I'll take $xxx, xxx *75% or whatever. I found a 05 430 for 105K with 20K miles on it. They are out there and there are a few people who price to sell. There is a grand misconception about how cheap they are getting though. I'm making 1 or 2 offers a day on 430s and people are not motivated to erase the gap between what they are selling for at wholesale auctions and where you see them advertised.

In FerrariWorld, asking price means diddly.

I'm in the market. Here's what I've found.

    2006 Spider. Red/Tan. 1000 miles. Can be had for $160K. 2007 a little more. 2008 a little more. 2009 a lot more.

In the market SERIOUSLY ! Also finding asking prices all over the place.Just looking at 430 spiders 05 -07. Looks like a 05 spider around 4000 mil $150 . Then depending on mileage $10-15 k more per year? I just want a fair price for a good car. Its hard to determine fair value. It all comes down to the seller. Lot of 430 on the market very few seem to be moving.

Wow, I haven't been rushed off the phone that fast when talking about a car price ever. Here's the car I was looking at:

    http://www.ferrarifl.com/fort-lauderdale-preowned-inventory?mask=1&match.locationname=Ferrari%20Maserati%20of%20Long%20Island

Finally got to speak with a Gregg Hayim at F of LI today. We chatted a bit about the car, found out it was a consignment vehicle and when I tossed the number $170-$175K out there he got offended, told me he wouldn't even tell the owner about the offer and said that this car is selling all day long at $190K and that the car would be sold by the end of the week. It's a shame, as this is the perfect combination of what I was looking for in a 430 and with the two other F-cars I had to play with trades (and my willingness to pay even more than 175K) I'm sure we could have reached an agreeable number. But I guess not now. He actually seemed put out and said I was offering wholesale price (which we all know where wholesale is on this car at this point).

Having said all that, believe it or not, this has been my FIRST negative experience with an F-car dealer. I have been treated great by the folks at Fof Washington (bought a 360 from them) FCI and the guys in Vegas. Is this typical of Ferrari of Long Island? Did I just catch this man on a bad day and he's really a good salesman? I mean even if there's no way the seller would take that as an offer, there are better ways to go about discussing it. Like I said, you guys know me and my impulse buying; he had a live one that would have bought the car with a bit of give and take.

Kinda bummed out now; I had already made up my mind to get the car.

THAT'S where I have the market pegged as well; figured for a choice car like this starting at 170-175K and maybe working up to 180-185K would be a very fair price to buy the car from. But to have the door slammed in my face like that?

dont forget there are heavy auction fees, heavy shipping fees, then dealers have to prep the car and spend god knows how much money to get the car right.. clutch, tires, service etc etc.

as a consumer you have the luxury of test driving the car and inspecting it... its a luxury that dealers dont have... we take a risk buying a car that may have $10k in issues or more.

normal cars can be post sale inspected.. but with any exotic or highline car, that option is not available. so dont think that as a retail customer, youre ever buying a car at MMR prices.

Dont get discouraged...they are many 430s out there....and prices are coming down lower and lower...also, winter is coming up and the 458 is coming out soon-more downword pressure on prices....the sales guy sounds like a jerk, and I dont believe he can sell the car for $190k all day long...contrary to what the government and the fed are saying, the economy is NOT recovering in any significant way - a double dip recession is still not out of the question with the economy tanking again in the next year.....

I paid just south of 200k on my 2007 with 2200 miles but the MSRP was 298. The options on the F430s can really add up compaired to the 360s so keep that in mind. So, 180 for a poorly optioned car and up to and slightly above 200 on a fully optioned car.

Well, then you offered what market is, wholesale market, but still market.

If they felt strongly about the car's value why didn't they buy the car rather than work a consignment?

I recently purchased a 360, and ran out of garage room for my 06' S500. They offered to consign the car for me or give me $30k (CPO, under 30k miles, AMG package). I didn't want to deal with having my car sit somewhere else so I just took the loss - simply the reality of the times we are in.

Wait a week, if the car is still there nicely repeat the offer to the GM, or make a higher offer to get the car you really want.

    Good luck.

i had somewhat of a similar experience at foli...nice 360 but overpriced, but i was willing to negotiate. i was told that not only am i buying a quality car but most important i am getting their friendship and that can be useful when it comes to servicing and any problems should they occur.1 month later i found a 360 with lower miles, more options, mint condition and 20k cheaper at a f dealer. i had to transport it but i am glad i waited for the right deal. keep looking for the right car at your price.please don't get me wrong...i'm not bashing foli, just answering your question if any one else had the same experience

Problem is I ONLY want a Pozzi blue spider, F1, light tan interior,etc.... and I waited 8 months and this is the first car on the market. So, it isn't like looking for a plain red/tan car where I have lots of options.

And I live in the sticks of Louisiana; I'm transporting from wherever I buy! ;)

Why not call back, and get a different sales person, or the sales manager. Explain that there was a bit of a clash with the previous sales person. I personally believe your offer was a realistic starting point. Most sales people would have used that as your starting point, and concentrated on " bringing you up". 190 all day long is simply not correct. If it is the absolute perfect car for you, than it is worth the additional call. Being it is a consignment car, this sales person chose to be cavalier in his attitude, as the dealership has very little skin in the game. If they had 170k tied up, that call would have went differently. Good Luck, Rich.

Willi, is your Spider silverstone color with red interior? I don't know of any Spiders that priced out that high as to M.S.R.P. other than mine. I didn't bother to investigate who bought mine this summer, and it really doesn't matter, but out of curiousity, I'd bet it was you. If it was, I believe you got a very good deal.
