I believe it's in mid December. The preorder option has finally come out. I'm planning on preordering it this week, especially now that I know the 458 is in it!

Edit: Release date is December 29th according to Amazon.

There is going to be a PSP version with 800 cars coming out on the 1st of October but who wants to play that game on a tiny screen?

The PS3 version comes out in December 2009, I read somewhere possibly the 29th.

If I buy a pedal/steering set from Logitech (G25), will Gran Turismo 5 and Forza 3 support the clutch pedal?

Man, Ferrari's don't have clutches anymore. Is annoying to use one in games anyways, remember the Ferrari Challenge arcade game?

Logitech released the G25 successor, called the G27.
It is compatible with PC and PS3 not with the Xbox...

I've never played a computer game, is that what the images actually look like when you play the game? If so, the graphics are fantastic. I'm very impressed!

Then you my friend, are in for a treat! And yes, those are the in-game graphics. Can't wait for this one. Nothing like driving Ferraris in the house!

Oh I'm not about to start playing 'em now. I sit in front of computers all day at work, the last thing I want to do is fill up my spare time with them. I am, though, very impressed with how far the graphics have come and love the attention to detail. You have to admire the work that's gone into this.

No they don't, but as stated before: Todays Ferrari's are high tech showcases to me and I'd probably get a F1 'box over a manual anyway... Tons of other pure hardcore cars to enjoy with a stick gearbox (RUF's, Atom's, BMW M's etc.)!
I remember... But I have to give this thing a try... Even if it's not so fun with the clutch/manual gear change I'm sure the flappy paddle part is going to be.

The graphics are certainly improved from Forza 2. Some of the race tracks are beautiful, but the Forza series has an "artistic interpretation" to the graphics. It looks like a videogame with awesome graphics.

GT5 has a photo realistic look.

The actual game won't look quite as impressive. With only one car on the track, and no physics or AI to deal with in a pre-rendered movie, that sequence can use higher image quality (AA, AF, shadow mapping) than will be possible in the actual game, but GT5's graphics are still unbelievable.

edit: Here's an off screen actual gameplay video of the ferrari in cockpit mode: http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_gran_turismo_5_tgs09_ferrari_cockpit-12989_en.html
Check out the animation on the paddle shifters.

Ah, yes, that's what I was getting at. Was that beautiful footage what you'd actually see when you sat down and played the game or is it pre-rendered and of a higher quality that actual game play? And I guess you've actually answered the question.

From what I've read, Prologue and GT5 are 60fps 1080p x2aa in game, but in "replay mode" it drops to 30 and adds some extra motion blur, depth of field, less shadow aliasing etc.

The lighting in cockpit view is top notch. And you really see the quality of materials in the exotics. GT5 will be the closest I get to driving a 458 for a long while.

It's not pre-rendered. That's game footage. Yes, it will look that good.
