    We just use a rope.....you mean the carrier strap that latches onto the terminals?

    I don't think I have that in ANY of mine!

    Probably was stolen on the first battery! LOL!

    That's the one, Bubba. It was lying loose in the trunk when I bought the car. It came in handy last month when I removed the Optima. But it's not in the parts diagram. I suspect it's "unofficial" as well.

    Were the allen wrenches originally part of the tool kit in '82?

    I have the kit for my 82 GTB, but no allen wrenches. . . and it doesn't seem to me that there are THAT many allen bolts on the car.

    The parts manual has a page devoted the the jack and tool kit. It is the best source for what the two should contain.

    All,

    I am an "expert" on 308 tool kits having worked hard to get a correct one. It is a long story but mine was missing some tools and was rusting I sent it to get it flash plated and the tools came back chromed like snap-on. Everyone laughed at me at car shows...I spent another 2 years trying to find a correct one and lucked out. The owner of the one I bought said every time he sold a Ferrari he took out the tool kit, not very polite but worked out for me. That was about $200 yen years ago The correct early kit has the t handle spark pug wrench and all the wrenches should say EVEREST made in india. I know they are junk but I think it is VERY important to keep the entire set and sell it with the car.....

    Interesting.

    My 1982 308GTB came with the complete jack kit and the tool roll. All of the wrenches are still there, but they're stamped "Made in Italy" instead of India. The screwdrivers and pliers are what's missing. . . I don't know what else.<:)

    My ebay-purchased 308 showed up without a tool kit. I called the PO and asked him why there wasn't a tool kit and he said "oh really, gosh, I thought it was in there...my mechanic must have taken it out the last time he serviced the car." Well, no less than 30 days after I talked with him he listed a "Ferrari 308 tool kit" on ebay for sale - guess where that tool kit came from?

    It's just plain ****ty to lie and do slimey things like removing the tool kit to sell it separately. I mean, come on, are you a stand up guy, or petty loser? Unfortunately, there seems to be an excess of petty losers out there right now....

    There is no "One" correct supplier or design/color of the contents. That is why for FCA judging we no longer care. Reasonable facsimilies of the parts book pictures are acceptable.
    Wrenches came from more than one supplier, so did screw drivers and pliers. Fuse and light holders came in several colors.

    I was beginning to think that Ferrari might have been kind of sloppy about what they were putting in the tool kits. It seems that is the case.

    I'm glad that FCA concours judges are reasonable about it. Now, as for the sticklers for "originality," even when the quality of the item in question is not all that good. . .

    Yes, it is "****ty".

    Fortunately, my own eBay purchased 308 did come with most of the tools. He WAS a "stand-up guy," as I've found that MOST Ferrari owners are.

    I posted elsewhere about buying on eBay; I won't put it down because I do think that eBay can be a good venue for purchasing parts, and even, in some circumstances, cars.

    In my case, the seller let me inspect the car prior to purchase, and even allowed me to reserve right of refusal once I'd placed the winning bid and was allowed to test drive the car.

    Now, if only I could find those screwdrivers and pliers. . .

    Sorry to hear that you were gypped out of your tools. Hope the car is otherwise satisfactory.

    I don't know Brian. We seem to have a shocking number of dirt bags on Wall Street, crooked politicians, idiotic bankers, and self-interested CEOs. Average Joe also seems less concerned about being decent and straight forward than 30 years ago too. It really does feel different to me now than in the 70s....

    All he early tool kits came with the orange plastic drivers and the everest tools. Mine even has a tartan cloth under the flap. Later 308's came with the black drivers and the Ferrari wrenches and a different pliers that also said Ferrari. They also had a different spark plug wrench.

    Early jack kits had a yellow jack and ratchet later ones had black pieces, Euro ones had the replacement headlight pieces in the green round container US one did not.

    Of course none of this matters unless you want the "correct" stuff, which is important to me although after 12-21-12 will it matter?? :)

    Then evidently, I have the early (yellow) jack kit and the later tool kit ("Ferrari" marked wrenches.)

    I doubt that the previous owner ever replaced either; it's just that, as I said, Ferrari was not very consistent regarding what went into the tool kits.

    And BTW, what's supposed to happen on 12-21-12? Is that the new Y2K?

    I'm running NGK Iridium too but kick myself for throwing away almost perfect original stock plugs away when I should keep them for spares.

    I bought 2 new plugs for the tool kits but wished they were original ones.

    This got me curious.

    During my archaeological dig in my trunk, I found a bag of 7 spark plug extenders, another bag containing a set of used points, condensers and one rotor, a plug wire boot, 3 spare belts, a set of used Bosch plugs, a set of used Champion plugs, and the following tool kit stuff in the pic.

    I don't see anything that looks like it may be a carb tool,and I am unsure what the rod next to the spark plug wrench is for, as the rod it too large to fit through the hole in the top of the plug wrench handle. The pockets inside the jack pouch are empty, no spare fuses or spark plugs.
