Are there any cars which, if all goes as planned (knock on wood), you will never sell and keep in the family? Our 599 is our first Fcar and she's an absolute dream. Red, V12 up front, 2 seat GT car, beautiful and a glorious noise. It isn't an extremely rare collectible Ferrari but she is very special to us as she the first one (and hopefully not the last)...and what a first Ferrari! It's truly a dream come true. Hopefully she will stay in the family for the generations to come. How about you? Do you own any cars (Ferraris or not) which you don't intend to let go? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I hope I never have to let go of my Oxford Blue 1978 Lotus Esprit. I knew about and wanted this particular car for years before I bought it. Since then, my wife and I used it in our wedding, took it for our honeymoon, and have been to many special events and places with it. Between the fact that it is my favorite car in the world and the happy memories we continue to accumulate, I don't even think of it in terms of heirloom because I'm so set on enjoying it myself! But if there's one keeper, that's it. After that, we have a white 1977 Esprit that would be nice to hand down to our children (that way if we have two, they each get one!). A bonus for the Lotus[es] is that they are far more resistant to decay than most cars of their era. I keep hemming and hawing about whether our 308 GTBi would make a good heirloom. It looks every bit the part. And by virtue of just being a Ferrari it should be a no-brainer. And it was/is our first Ferrari (another 308 has come and gone in the interim). But I'm not sure yet whether I want to keep it for the long haul. On some days I do . . . other days I'm thinking of what I could do to invest the money I'd get from selling it . . . But I do like the notion of a classic car as an heirloom. Unlike a plot of land that one may inherit, a car can move around with you, and is still something physically significant. Awesome cars fellas!! I wont be selling my 348 anytime soon. Hopefully NEVER!! I want 3 Ferraris all up and they will all be keepers if I can help it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don,t plan on selling my early 328 ever. Love the looks and driving experience. Even my wife enjoys taking a ride in it and she normally doesn't like to go fast but with this car she enjoys the experience.
Every car I have owned has been a "keeper" while I owned it but, something more significant has always comes along.
Already in my will to my son (no, he doesn't know this) along with an allocation of $6000 a year in perpetuity for maintenance. Ain't much - but it's mine, to be his. 1986 328 GTS Jedi Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Once I get my 550 (next year sometime hopefully) I don't think I'd ever sell it (providing I don't get a huge financial hit of course). They're getting old now, the 550's and many of them show a little bit of age (cracked leather for example). If things go as it should I'll get my 550 just before going on holiday (for almost a month). I think I'll get it completely fixed up during that time, maybe get all the options I miss on my car installed. But lets make it a reality first
When I bought my first Alfa, I lost count of all the people who came up to me and said, "I used to have an Alfa. Boy, I wish I still had that car now!". 30 years later, I still have that Alfa.
That I will sell my 400 Bhp koenig Ferrari 308. It is now when it has been so restord. I just love it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That Koenig 308 is AWESOME!!!! Personally, I will never voluntarily sell my Ginetta G20. The car has been more fun to own than anything else I have had. Work has gone s-l-o-w the past two years or so, and I decided to sell one of the fun cars. I sold the 348 early this summer. I was sad to see it go, but I drove the Ginetta at least twice as often as the Ferrari. I am drawn to the Ginetta for its quirks as well as its strong points. BT Image Unavailable, Please Login
I hope to never sell my 348. It is my first Ferrari therefore making it "special" so if I ever get another one I will add it as opposed to sell or trade in my current 348.
"Ain't much"?! I suspect you've picked up the art of British Understatement from somewhere! Fantastic Ferrari and what a charming thing to set up for your son. All the best, Andrew.
My 87 Porsche 944 which is pushing 250K miles. It's probably not worth $4K, but I don't think I could ever part with it. Bought it as a flood-damaged salvage car (with some help from dad) in 1988 while still in high school. Dad & I completely rebuilt the engine & went through the entire car until it was new again. That was my first car and the first engine I opened up. I've done every service on that thing for the last 20 years & it still runs like a 150hp champ. For years now, we drive the dogs to the beach twice a day in it. It's my goal to put 500K on it before I die! The first time I drove that car and my father saw the huge smile on my face he told me to work hard & smart so I could always have a Porsche in my garage. Since then I've owned nearly 20. Sorry for rambling.
Now that's a keeper. The car you always wanted and one that holds fond memories. Also, it's the one car your wife might also develop a sentimental attachment to!
