Man, this is very sad news, from an uncomfirmed source. Currently (was) on Tour with Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women.... Sweet dreams little girl, I'll miss you on stage and with me on the dance floor at the Broken Spoke.. They played Houston just last weekend, I gave away/sold all my tickets to concentrate on my "situation"...... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mike, I can't seem to find "much" news on this situation, if you can get a link to Austin Media coverage and information on the Funeral arrangements, I'd certainly appreciate it.. She's been dating a close friend of Jesse's ever since she went out to the West Coast. Thanks.
I guess it'll be a spray of yellow roses, for a Texas girl. I have some other pictures of her, playing at the Spoke and such, but I think that one is one of the best, anyway................you can here her playing and vocals on the new release "Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women"....... Man, that hurts, to hear them do "Potters Field"...ya'll hug the ones you love......
They sounded SO great, singing together. She's on ALL of Kelly's CDs, until she left to go Out West...with Dave Alvin Here she strikes a "Vogue" pose, in her backyard! LOL! Crazy girl....... Image Unavailable, Please Login
...some of you Austin Texas folks chime in, if you find some coverage of her... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think that's one of her first shows with Dave Alvin, maybe the Crighton Theatre... Nice party back stage, and I have one of Dave's CDs signed: "Alan, see you in Conroe!" ROTFLMAO! After the show we all went over to Tut's Burger stand, and they talked Dave up onto the stage, AGAIN, with Davin James' band...he played a whole second show... I finally cornered Amy, and asked her to dance......
..getting to the last of the photos on this machine, I'll have to get the others..... You can go to MySpace and check my "Speedy" profile..there's pictures there, of our last party shots at the Broken Spoke, with Jesse Dayton, David Beebe sitting in on bass guitar, and Amy on stage playing.... She's linked in my "Friends" section, there..... I finally got "the dance" I asked for, in Conroe, ALL those years ago....that's the odd thing about female musicians, they are usually playing on stage and you don't see them dance much! Amy was a very good dancer, we were out there most of the night, when she wasn't playing onstage with Jesse Dayton. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rest In Peace, sweet girl....... I think Bob Wills has a swing band, in Heaven........it'll be twin fiddles, now.... *crying*
Here's what i could find http://www.countrystandardtime.com/news/newsitem.asp?xid=3307 http://www.the9513.com/guilty-womens-amy-farris-found-dead-nashville-at-nite-returns-new-1100-springs-music-on-the-horizon/
Keep your head up, Tex...... Remember her talent and how fortunate you were to know her. She's resting now
Thanks guys... Talent indeed, and just a sweet gentle person. I'm sure, with that red hair, she must have had a temper, but in all that time, I NEVER saw it. She taught hundreds of students in music, before leaving Austin to further her own professional career. I have never heard anyone have a bad thing to say about her... Lots of accolades pouring in, via "twitter"....I'm afraid Ol' Tex doesn't 'twitter'........much. The media around the actual situation is clamped down pretty tight.....get the Coroner's Office on the phone.....
This is the second friend I have had come home from L.A., in a box. "Found dead at home".......is that West Coast shorthand for "everyone else ran away??" They declare "suicide" before they even saw her up in the Morgue, and get toxocology tests back? That takes two weeks......That just makes me upset....she just released the biggest CD of her life, and she has "mail box money" from dozens of others..... Makes no sense. There's the insomnia, but........... Thanks Letsjet, she is indeed, finally, finding her rest.....
Tex, I agree, the suicide verdict is a foul..... Saying goodbye is never easy...Just try to concentrate on all the great memories and great times you shared together. (This always makes me smile when I miss old friends) best,
I don't Tex. I wasn't able to attend that wedding. My dad is in the music business and knows her & some of her friends. I ask him to see what he can find out about all of this.
Mike, Thanks, but just leave it alone...I thought it thru and nothing will change. I have a lot of mates that played with her, and I don't want to interfere. Homicide has completed the investigation with no signs of foul play, and the Coroner is sawing her up now.... Time will tell. *sigh* Maybe I can find one of her paintings in a store, somewhere.......everyone is posting 'utubes' and the Houston Press is blogging it.... You cannot unring a bell, I'll let them toll...... Alan
As you can hear on an old blues CD I have, they ask about an old mutual friend.... "Well, he's gone on...."
Hello, I am (was) a friend of Amy's and am friends with her brother. May I print up some up of the pictures you posted for a photo album I am making for him and for a gathering with friends in remembrance tomorrow? You have some really wonderful pictures of her. Thanks, Melinda
What are the funeral arrangements? Please call me at <snip> Of course you may use them, it's an assortment gathered from my emails from Amy, her Yeproc website, her MySpace or her shows I attended over the years. They were on my hard drive and I have no idea who to give photo "credit" to....a small concern given the circumstances..I have a few more on my MySpace page from the Broken Spoke.... See if you can find "Speedy" on MySpace the photo album is public....Amy, David Beebe (Continental Club/Houston) and I were clowning around, after she played with Jesse Dayton. The photo in the Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women insert is a nice one, too, but I had trouble scanning it in, she's peeking over her violin.. You know HER MySpace account is currently set to "not allow" comments, I was thinking of asking them to 'override" that, to allow people to comment there. Regards, Alan Leach
