I don't disagree - but what Diablo had exposed headlights and lacked roof-mounted air intakes? Aside, of course, from the 6.0 - which this is not. And why did it not have a gated shifter? It was a manual of course but had one of those vinyl-style covers at the base of the shifter.

I have owned 2 Diablos, and I can tell you this looks like a replica to me, but a well done one, the height and length is correct. I would think the dead giveaway would be the vinyl covered shifter, Lamborghini had metal gates throughout their Diablo production.

Perhaps I have been fooled. As I didn't stop to take a closer look I didn't see the incorrect gear shifter. There was a limited run of "version 2" Diablos in 99'. They featured a few upgrades from the original diablo, such as exposed headlights and a new dashboard. Another upgrade were new wheels, which the red diablo in question doesn't have. With all of that taken into consideration, as well as the fact that this Diablo does not have a VT badge (all 99's were VTs), it does seem that this can be filed under the very good replica category. I wonder what sort of engine it had. Did you hear it running?

Yes - and it was LOUD! In fact, after hearing it run, I assumed it was real. It wasn't until I went home later did I look at pictures - especially interior pictures - and determine it might be a replica. I never thought I'd be so fooled by a replica, but, as other people have said, it's a very good one.

It was nice to see two Ferraris out today since the turnout yesterday was so awful

-white 430 Spyder at the Westin
-black 430 Scuderia on Lenox Rd on top of 400

Another thing I found whilst browsing the internet was THIS on the Lamborghini dealership's website. It says that it's not in the country right now but if it ever makes it to the showroom, I may go crazy!

aside from what everyone else said (shifter, wheels, etc)
    1) headlights look a little too recessed and rounded vs. the 99 I had. I think lambo actually used the lights from the 300Z when they ditched the flip ups. they were pretty crappy and some people replaced them.
    2) no gas cap door on the passenger side? this seems to be the tell tale sign for me.
    3) never seen a diablo with reverse lights in the back grill like that. usually in the bumper.
    4) no 3rd brake light?

looks damn close but I'd have to vote fake.

I agree, especially with this point. And which car has the gas cap on the driver's side, as the "Diablo" did? You guessed it - the Pontiac Fiero!

A very good fake, but a fake nonetheless.

I will be watching, but if you find out the CCXR is in the showroom before me, PLEASE let me know!!! -kevin

Edit: So it says CCX, but shows and describes the CCXR. So apparantly it is the CCXR.

Yesterday at about 3:30, I saw a candy-apple red Murcielago going westbound on Sandy Plains Road near Post Oak Tritt. I was in the Ferrari at the time and waved at the driver, but it appears that he never saw me. An unlikely place to see two Italian exotics at the same time!

Interesting fact - the white 430 spider that has been seen around was originally titanium.

    I was thinking 190 SL. How can you tell it's a 280?

Pretty cool, I saw it again tonight but it was dark and I couldn't get a picture.

    Other pics from tonight...

    -GT-R at Phipps
-old Lotus Esprit (I think) driving on Peachtree, it had some pretty old Alabama plates and a sticker on the side that said "World Champion." I tried to get a side picture but it was never still long enough.
    -silver R8 at Phipps
    -black 550 at Fado

If anyone wants to see a Porsche Panamera, there are two on display at St. Regis in buckhead tonight. One is a blue Turbo and the other is the 4s that some of us have already seen. I'll have pictures later on tonight.

The 190 has rounded headlights, instead of the 280's rectangular units. :) -kevin

speaking of the Panamera. my buddy David Murry is in WI this week doing the official press launch for the Panamera..

sounds like they are having a good time up there. I spoke with Murry yesterday and he was in the WI airport heading back to ATL. he has to go back up there on Sunday for more Porsche stuff.

You're right in thinking it's not a 190SL, whose body style was different, but there's really no way to tell if it's a 280SL or a 230SL. The more correct description would be a W113 SL, which encompasses both models.

EDIT: With a little Googling, I discovered it could theoretically also be the 250SL, of which I've never heard. Who knew.

    Another busy day today...

-some old car, either a Jaguar or a Morgan, I'm not quite sure
    -Viper SRT/10 Coupe at Lenox
    -R8 V10 at Lenox
    -DB9 convertible at Lenox
    -360 at Peachtree and Lenox
-Gallardo spyder in front of Lenox
    -Drophead near Weiuca Rd
    -430 on Peachtree
-DB9 pulling into the parking deck at St. Regis
-Viper SRT/10 across the street from Atlanta Fish Market
-Silver Seraph pulling into the Mansion
-older Rolls Royce pulling out of Terminus
    -Alpina B7 on Piedmont

As a side note, I saw 3 Panameras today, the two that were on display from yesterday and another one driving. I'm surprised to see so many of them around before its even out and disappointed at the same time because I don't really like the way it looks and it's only a matter of time before they are everywhere like the Bentleys and Maseratis.

and I'm off to NYC for a few days for vacation, hopefully I'll come across some cool stuff while I'm there

The reason there are so many around now is because PCNA is right here in Atlanta. If you were in any other city you wouldn't see the car at all. Plus, this car is extremely important to Porsche (well, at least the old way of Porsche thinking, I am not sure about VW thinking) and they need it to be out there and making a statement.
