I plead ignorance. I'm indifferent to the Alonso decision and don't want to fan flames but i have just one question: How has Alonso been judged either qualitatively or quantitatively to be the best driver choice for Ferrari? Thanks.
Well you see he has the most championships and the most wins. Also he did a great race in Japan last year.
I'm not sure he's the best. I think he's the best *proven* commodity Ferrari can get though. Hamilton being the other choice.
I would too, but Ferrari needs experience, and, Vettel signed a 2-3 year contract extension with RB recently. Will definitely cost a lot to get him out.
With Hamilton, Rubens, Button, and Vettel showing dominance when they're car was the best of the pack along with others showing traffic passing ability it just seems hard to justify getting rid of Kimi when he's a former world champ and has spent a year in the trenches with the team and the car as they mulch through all the problems. Alonso wouldn't have won with this years car either. With Alonso they'll have to start all over.
Speaking of the Kimster I wonder what kind of mood he's going to be in for the rest of the year? Unmotivated and schlogging it through or turning on the jets because he's been canned and wants to thumb his nose at the red team and prove he's a contender to the new guys?
My definition of being the best is making the most with the best you have as well as winning races and championships. Right now he has won the most championships and has driven alright with what he has, so I think he is on his way to being the best, however we have to see how he will perform in the future, if he wins races and championships next year then he will ultimately have that the title of being the best driver.
I remember two interviews with FA. One asked him and teammate LH what they would do with 3 wishes. LH wished for his brothers health,(the other two I forgot but they were like peace and happiness). Alonso wished for 3 more WDC's. In the other interview he asked him what he wanted to accomplish in life outside of racing; A feel good question. His answer was "to be happy" Interviewer asks what makes you happy ? More WDC's Alonso is like a shark; eating thinking breathing WDC's. No one will get in his way. And after 2 his thirst is still as much as before his first. The true test.
I don't think there is a whisker between either of them in there desire to win more WDC's. Both of them on the same team proved that, you could argue thats why they both lost a chance at a WDC that year.
I dont think LH would sell his team down the river, back-stab his teammate, arrange a contract in which he is the undisputed #1 even if the team suffers for it, or sell his grandma's soul. FA on the other hand....
You wouldn't? Who was the one that disobeyed the team and started all the nonsense in the first place? Oh please, he'd do what he'd have to do. Just like MS, Senna, Prost, etc, did before him. He'll just be more sneaky about it. That's F1 these days and it isn't gonna change.
hamilton is the defending WDC and therefore by definition the best yes, just stirring the pot but i do like hami (as a driver)
Enzo Ferrari never wanted to sell road cars.... but he needed the money for racing. Alonso might be the best driver for Ferrari because a new sponsor has come on board. And if money is still important to racing, and the new sponsor wants Alonso.... then Alonso is the best choice for Ferrari. My question is... how big of a sponsor is the Spanish Bank? QUOTE- LONDON — "Formula One champion Ferrari is expected to announce Santander as new sponsors. Spain’s largest bank has backed McLaren since 2007, when Spain’s double world champion Fernando Alonso was with the Mercedes-powered team."
The reason for their different answers is that LH doesn't need a genie's 3 wishes to win more WDCs. FA does...
