Countach, the ultimate supercar

I saw one of these in person the other day.

 

Just one.

This car was at Sant Agata awaiting collection on April 26th 1979.

Great looking car, pity you have to be less than 6 feet to fit in it.
Had anniversary model, then got a F512M and never looked back.

 

That car has influenced many cars including the one thats parked in my garage right now.

Congratulations on your F512M, great car, though quite different in spirit, and to drive, when compared to a Countach.

I agree also, the Countach is a great looking car.

However, your statement "pity you have to be less than 6 feet to fit in it" is not accurate, for every model from LP400 to Annivesario. Having had the good fortune to own all variants of Countach ever produced over the course of the last 23 years, and being over 6 feet (6 ft 3ins actually), I must report I have never had an issue with headroom in a Countach. Yes it is snug, but I always expected nothing less from a 'no-compromises rocket-for-the-road' concept. Perhaps its a matter of being fairly limber and reasonably fit to be able to settle into the Countach's cockpit, but also, over the last quarter century I have encountered literally a dozen 6-foot-plus Countach owners and I cant recall any ever mentioning headroom. One of them is posted below (actually his wife is almost 6 ft in her heels!). If expectations going in are in order, and if the car is used for the purpose for which it was designed and nothing more, its not an issue.
I will concede that at 6' 3", I am at the upper limit of anyone wanting to drive a Countach with a good degree of comfort with head rubbing on the headliner (I usually have half-an-inch to spare).

Perhaps some 6-foot-plus Countach owners will chime in and agree/disagree...

 

I am 6'3" (180lbs) and fit well. Slightly more room in the 5000S versus the LP400S...400S feels better though. It really comes down to how you are built. Two friends that are also 6'2"-3" do not fit at all....they have shorter legs, longer/thicker torso (220-230lbs).

i fit well in hi roof cars, the low body is a little small for me but i can happily drive it

am I alone in thinking that that particular decklid (engine hatch) is the sweetest looking of the entire countach line? just. so. badass.

 

..AND houses a 'badass' powerplant!!

That particular deck-lid is unique to 1987, 1988 and 1988 1/2 carburetted Countachs.

 

Yes Joe, correct. The '85 and '86 MY cars has the additional side vents on the engine cover like on the 5000S 2 valve cars - see pic below. All the DD cars have the composite (the factory called it kevlar at the time) material. When the engine heats up the "cloth" look appears and when it cools down becomes smooth. Do the FI 4 valves have the composite front trunk and engine cover? In Europe the 25th cars (even DD went back to the aluminum front hood - always wondered why??
