Fuel Filter, 1983 308 Euro Vs. USA

I post some questions to the F-Chat tech pros:

-How is possible that the Euro versions of the 308 -all the injected cars I believe- have a different fuel filter than the USA versions? Delivery fuel system is the same, injectors, pump, internal pressure... or not? Oil filter and air filter are the same.

-A Euro fuel filter can work on a USA car and viceversa?

In the attached image you can see the external differences. There are internal -important- differences also?

Xangsi? Sounds like some chinese made aftermarket part instead of OEM to me. Bosch is the OEM.

 

Hengst is a German fuel filter, and those filters were used for vehicles sold in Germany.

Germany has strict early compliance codes (End of Life Vehicle Regulations) for disposal of engine parts and equipment. The Hengst was within environmental compliance because the used filter inserts could easily be removed cleanly from the filter casing and disposed of in compliance with German regulations.

 

One difference is that unleaded fuel was used in the USA in the early 80's (and not in Europe) so maybe the US filter has some different materials inside that have the necessary chemical compatibility required for the unleaded fuels of the day. Don't know that for sure -- just a guess...

As your photo shows, the outside dimensions are a little different so I'd just use the same as is already on the car so the brackets and fuel line lengths fit well.

If anyone has a spare parts catalogue handy for a 1980 US version 308i-2V B/S that uses two fuel filters (try explaining that! ) -- does it use the 115738 or 117792 filters (or some other PN)?

 

ha! my 1980 parts manual only has the 1980 fuel injection, and the carb car set up. it does not show the QV set up at all. worse, on TAV 9 it shows the filter to be the old style screw in type pn fiamm 95180061 or fispa 95180050. which i know is the early versus late carb car set up !!!!!


the manual came from Mercian manuals, bought a bunch of them for reading material a few years ago. now it seems they dont sell any Ferrari manuals anymore. perhaps they were not " authorized " reprints after all ?

I recently bought a German, Meyle #0140470032, fuel filter, for my '85' Euro 308. I have not installed yet......just too busy.

 

Don't understand why this is such a critical issue for you -- are you unable to get the euro Bosch 0450905203 or equivalent, and are forced to use the USA type? (Both the 0450905203 and 0450905601 are readily available here in the US.)

 

No Steve. No problem about filters -maybe in the future-. Just curious. I've found that nobody can't answer this question. All the guys answered about that have no response -FChat or elsewere-... A mistery.
Now I'm trying to know the technical differences on cam belt tensioners bearings, OEM and replacement.
And I've a USA spec car, so in Europe all the parts listed in the Ferrari spares sites -belts, filters, etc- are different. So I want to know a little bit more...
