For me its either a Ducati 999S or a Ducati 999R. I saw a 999S at Fast By Ferraci (sp?) and fell in love with it. $30K too, I wish I had that money for it.

Of these, by far the best motorcycle is the 1098R. Having said that, the new 1198 is the bike to buy if you want bang for the buck, IMO....and you want a Ducati.

REAL world bang for the buck and check you ego at the door for poseur points? You can buy an 08' CBR1000RR for around $8K out the door at some distressed Honda dealerships. THAT is a deal for a hell of a lot of motorcycle.

I have owned mine for over 35 yrs. This one is not mine but it is in better shape.

Honda CBX The first 2 were mine, both sold to my brother. The engine never fails to impress. It's as smooth as an electric motor and sounds like a 911.

    CBX's don't sound like a 911! With a 6 into 1 Kerker, they sound like a jet!

southern honda had them for 6983 with LIFETIME engine warrantees...

then i read about them burning a quart of oil every 2-3k miles... Id still buy one, but my zx-10r has been reliable, fun at the track, fun on the street, and is still under warranty... Time will tell what comes next, but i cant get rid of her yet.

Nice bikes btw. I'll have to ride a 1098r next time i get the opportunity. They are one of the best looking bikes on the market. Pearl white is amazing on ducs.

I too am fond of "bang for the buck" Japanese I4 bikes. From my 70s 900Z1 and GS750 to my current Hayabusa, they have all been well made, designed for performance, beautiful in function, fast, handled well, economical to buy and reliable to virtual perfection...

    Sweet, Love it.
Looks like a 69-70, only thing I see non stk. is the missing tank reflectors and the addition of the ribbed motor mounts. What is ribbed mount behind left motor mount, the foot peg bracket ? I have similar one converted from Tiger (single carb) to Bonneville(dual carbs) big bore kit I kept the bigger tank of the Tiger and the pea soup green color euphemistically called Spring Gold. The "Bonny" typically was red or blue? Can the original mufflers be had anywhere ? For a couple of decades they were NLA so I ran TT pipes with shortys. Would like to put back to original.Had it 36 years. Couple of years you'll be kicking yourself.

I have to agree, the 888 SP4 was the model that got me interested in Ducati in the first place. Unfortunately I was a poor student at the time and couldn't afford one new. Quite collectible now and very hard to find. The later SP5 went a bit down market using cheaper suspension and other equipment; but still quite the looker :)

Good eye. My old bike was a 70. And yes the motor mounts were after market. There is plenty of NOS and Repop stuff around. The major problem with the bike was it was uncomfortable until you're butt went numb. The Brits never figured out how to split a crankshaft.

Yeah, I miss it. Maybe I'll buy it back someday. :)
