Wow are they really trying to pull this? I'll show up next week and I'll have to see about this.
We are not going to win the battle of VCR and everyones efforts would be better spent on finding a new venue. Vons was not the only store complaining according to the Police this morning. The problem there is with the landlord who owns the center. I think this time we should try to find someone who will benefit from our presence and contact them before we try to meet at their location. Does anyone know Councilman Dennis Zine, he showed up at the Swat event Dusty put on and seemed to interested in anything that could help the large number of potencial voter we represent. Possibly the city has a lot we could use. Dustin what about the lot on Canoga you use for your Christmas event or Countrywides old parking lot ? A Question for everyone Would you pay $ 2.00 or $ 3.00 a Sunday if it went for Insurance or Porta Potties ? Just thinking about the possibilities if we had to rent a lot ?
Here is the video of the cop's speech: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcC-PwBhNRs Spread it around!! We'll start the S.O.S. Campaign - Save Our Sundays!
New year's eve? Seriously? Why not just have it on Christmas morning? Consider me frustrated from a distance. Sorry you guys are having to deal with this B.S.
This really sucks! Dustin and VCR are getting screwed here. I'm going to take my business to Ralph's from now on. Not that Von's will miss me but it is a matter of principle now. I will be sending them a letter or call just to let them know that they are being idiots. My guess is that they are the biggest tennants the landlord has so voicing our opinion sure can't hurt. If the property management company loses Von's they would lose a large client. BTW the Auto gallery idea sounds great, just think of it, they can make some money from Sunday car themed breakfast, and they may sell a car or two in the process. Only issue is acreage required to host it will be way more than they have for the new dealership. JC
We don't give up yet! We are not defeatists! The only way we won't win is if we don't fight back! This is only the beginning of a worthwhile fight for Dusty's customers. Dusty is only guilty of being brilliant at marketing a small coffee shop to doing a landmark business on Sundays as well as making the name VCR widely known. You don't desert your friends. He deserves our back up. I actually was hoping to get my 430 towed. I will be only too happy to sue the management of the center. Unfortunately, they left me alone. Well, maybe next week.
It seems that Von's could solve their problem just by having some "Von's customers only" spots coned off. Sorry to see it all coming to this...
i agree! but what happeens if the management doesnt renew dustys lease? just wondering if that could happen?
I called Vons (Safeway) to voice my opinion and was referred to: Daymond Rice, Director of Public Affairs in Arcadia CA. 626.821.7897. I think if he got blasted with calls they may have a different approach to the potential customer base loss. JC
Went to ********** at Coffe Roasters, there were 3 police cars and 5 cops. Talked with them, they were friendly enough as they explained that the property owners now had a restraining order that they were enforcing. Seems its the old story, a few bad apples spoiling it for the rest of the bunch. Where to on Sundays????????????
...and what if your daily driver is a Ferrari? ...what if it is a 4 door Maserati? ....what if it is an e30 M3 with a factory evo wing? ---what if it is an e30 M3 with no wing? Where do they (subjectively) draw the line? Is it at the discretion of the security guards? By the way, at the Nugget market in Roseville, Nor Cal, they hand out $1 drink coupons to all the exotic cars at e-u-r-o-s-u-n-d-a-y events.
I brought my M5 on Sunday instead of the 430, pulled in and parked next to a couple Ferraris, the guard did not even look in my direction... I like it , instead of Super... lets have Dalily Driver Sunday one week, they will go nuts... Unfortunately, it is private property, and management can do what they want. The fight will end up being between the small business owners who benefit from the Sunday business and management as these business owners are the ones loosing out from all this. All we can do is be supportive and boycott Vons, CVS and whoever else is causing these problems.
Kind of my point....if they let a 2007 Honda Element in and not a 430 then I would scream.... Proved my point. Lets do it.
While I think this truly sucks big time, I don't understand why some people are choosing to be defiant of the owners wishes, it is pretty disrespectful if you ask me. Clearly the owner was not all that against the event seeing how it was allowed to happen for a number of years now. It would appear that they are finally giving in to the demands of their biggest tenants. If the table was turned and it was your property, you would likely do the same thing and you most certainly wouldn't want a bunch of people putting up a fight and causing trouble over it. You have to admit that the event has grown a bit out of hand, what with all the burnouts and speeding, trash left in the lot, large groups of clubs coming in, etc.. I've personally witnessed the cops having a chat with a large group of Mustang owners who were driving recklessly. This was bound to happen and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that is in the least bit observant. Again, I think it sucks, but lets be pragmatic here Hopefully a new location can be found (that is still close to the canyons too) Flame suit on
While I agree with your comment on the size of the event and the actions of those that I consider to be careless. Since this is not an organized event I am not sure that there is any other liability other than the simple fact that people are parking in a parking lot and going into certain stores or shops and spending money. Stopping that from happening is ludicrous and shameful in the current state of the economy. What you really need to realize is they are taking away from someones business by not allowing people park and get out of their cars. My argument has nothing to do with the gathering of people, it is aimed at BIG CORPORATE attempting to put their boots on the throat of the hard working American. This is not only a VCR fight, it is a fight for the other tenants that have embraced the gathering and made hay while the sun shines. I have been going to the VCR for 15 years now, most of the time on a weekend so I can enjoy the company of Dusty and others that patronize the store. I do not plan on changing what I do any time soon.
I don't totally disagree. It seems like a different ending could have been worked out. I think if the landlord/tenants against the gathering/tenants for the gathering had all sat down together a compromise could have been struck. Maybe the Vons lot would be off limits, the middle of the lot would be available, maybe a cut off time could have been agreed on. It seems like after 5 years or so there could have been a better way to handle the matter. Probably water under the bridge now.
