I'm in! Can I bring this and just leave it there? (it's my grandmas 73 Pontiac ) (I will need a ride home though) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Whether there is liability or not, the carelessness of some is still bad PR for the mall Also last time I was there, I intentionally looked around to see what shopping people were doing. Yes it seems there was some holding coffee and some in the Table(?) restaurant, and perhaps McDonalds gained some customers, but the majority were standing around in the lot empty handed. You have to be somewhat delusional to think that people coming for the meet are going to do any real shopping on Sunday mornings, they are there to see the cars and maybe buy a cup of coffee or have breakfast (so only two shops actually benefit from this). Also, many come from far away, they are going to do their shopping local to them. Take the blinders off, the reality is that "loitering" is what is really going on. But the meet in itself is doing that too, it is not allowing people who are not there for the meet to park and get out of their cars. Sorry, but I think that is a bunch of nonsense in this case
My blinders are off, what I see is an audience of 500+ people that I (if I were a business owner in that center) could attract to my business. When was the last time you had 500+ potential customers at your fingertips? Ok.....trying to understand that statement. Think all you want......its my view.
I don't think your blinders are truly off, you're biased in that you are in support of the event, it appears that you are friends with VCR/Dusty(?), you are local to the event so shopping there is convenient for you, and you're clearly unwilling to see the perspective that the meet could perhaps be a nuisance for some Again, there appears to be only two businesses there that people from the meet patronize How many people are showing up in their sportscars to go food shopping? How many people are actually local to the event that they would even come back another day to patronize the mall? Why would someone go shopping there when they have the same stores 10-20-30+ miles closer to home? I've gone for years and never bought anything more than a coffee/muffin, Sunday morning is the time to enjoy my car, not do any shopping. What's so hard to understand? Isn't this the major complaint of Vons and the other shops that their customers can't find spots to park because of SCS? I have seen lots of people in minivans and such (who are not there for the meet) driving around for a while looking for spots, often I see them leave in frustration too
Having lived in this area all my life, and shopped in the El Camino shopping center even before the VCR and Dusty was there I think I have a true understanding of the situation. You sir seem to have your blinders on, you seem to be the one with the issues about people parking in the lot and patronizing the shops. I show up in my sports car all the time (or used too) and shop at Vons, just as I have for 25+ years. If Fast Frame were open maybe I would buy one of the frames with a cool car picture, if the Vet was open maybe I would drop off my dog for his shots...get my point? The people complaining are simply making excuses IMHO, they are overlooking at a HUGE audience and letting opportunity pass them by. The fact is the 3 or 4 hours 4 times a month really does not hurt anyone. It actually is a service to the community. Stop playing devils advocate here and look at what you are arguing. If you are not patronizing the other shops then that is your choice, would you if they offered a discount or special to people there on Sundays? I bet you would. FYI I do see both sides of the situation here, I simply do not agree with the Property Management (big corporate) hurting the small business man because two or three shops complain and do not take advantage of the opportunity. Agree to disagree, obviously we do not see eye to eye.
LOL Actually, you just proved my point, you are local and you can't see the forest through the trees. I and pretty much everyone I know that goes to this event lives nowhere close to the mall, why would I "take my dog to the vet" or shop at Vons, when I have one 35 miles closer to me? Get my point?!!!! If you think that most people there are local and have a reason to shop at that mall, or want to shop at the mall on Sunday morning, you truly have your head up your ass, people come from all over to see the cars. I have no issue with people not being able to park there, I could care less, I am just looking at it objectively and can understand why the property owners made the decision, I never said I agree with it Again, my main point is it is completely obnoxious of you to go out there and disrespect the property owners wishes, it is just going to make the situation worse. At this point it is up to VCR and the other shops to negotiate a compromise
Like I said I have been going to that shopping center long before the VCR or Dusty were there, and even if I did not enjoy looking at the cool cars I would (until this week) continue to go there. You sir have the cloudy perspective due to your desire to argue. Evidently you do, otherwise you would not be arguing their point. You are correct, I will no longer patronize the shopping center or its Regency Managed affiliates. Thank you for making my line of sight clear.
"...you truly have your head up your ass..." (rallyguy) As soon as you made that unnecessary comment, you lost all credibility with me. A different opinion is acceptable...being a condescending jerk is not! Tim
did anyone notice in the video the huge burnout marks in the center? ironic......although not really in your favor......
I have lived and grown up in Hidden Hills and Calabasas for my entire life. I was going to VCR and el co before Dusty even worked there. Honestly, it's a big mall. I would often forget about all the stores that were at the center. With such events being put on as "bike night (past)" and now Super Car Sunday, there are many locals who are drawn to the mall and therefore continue to shop and reinvest in the community. In additional the outsiders (people who live more than let's say 10 miles) are drawn to the center and therefore patronize the shops, and the people who are drawn to see the cars are now aware of the stores/restaurants/shops, etc. Everybody wins.
Tell ya what I'aaad do............if I was the manager of Von's or for that matter, any business in that shopping center - - as regards these "Sunday visitors" - - I'd print up a bunch of flyers and have some pretty girls place them on each and every windshield of each and every car parked in the parking lot. The flyer would offer a %age discount off all purchases - - - and to qualify, you only need to show "your" flyer !!!! - - - "And we welcome you to our amazing shopping center" !!!!!! I'm viewing many of these business owners in much the same light as I see those who look out the front room window of their homes, in search of something (anything) to complain about - even if what they're complaining about, would be in their best interest. Ahh $--t, some people We'll see, I guess.......... Hank
I rather agree with Tim...while this is a very upsetting situation, there's no need for anyone to digress to such antics. We're all trying to figure-out a solution. Let's face it, the VCR gathering is beneficial to some vendors...and hurtful to others. Subway is probably coming away with the biggest plum, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Von's is seeing less customers on account of a lack of parking or distance-from-door parking. Lots of people do their marketing on their days off and Sunday morning is probably a heavy day for markets. Consider this; the half-gallon milk cartons (rectangulars) are waxed-coated paper and can't be recycled, if they pass a law to require all-plastic or glass, for environmental purposes, then it changes the dynamics. Somewhere out there is a plant that manufactures these rectangular cartons...they're screwed. At the same time, some plastic container plant is in for an increase in business. That's life for ya, any change mixes the cards and those who will benefit will strive for the change and those who get hurt are opposed to it. While Subway and other businesses will certainly benefit, there evidently is enough "hurt" on certain businesses to prompt the landlord to act. Obviously we want it to continue, it's in our interest....but that doesn't entirely make it right. Put yourself in other people's position...it's a complicated thing. In the end, we all have the right to pull into that parking lot, park and enter any store...wheter to spend $100, $10 or 10-cents. Dusty...here's what I think: I think you LONG ago had a few buddies who came to your parking lot in their Ferrari's and you hosted a few events. Since that time, LONG AGO, you've not done or promoted anything. Some other car clubs saw the gathering and momentum built COMPLETELY AND ENTIRELY outside the realm of your organizational efforts. At this point you have no more to do with the "circumstance" then the people across the street. End of story. Threaten to counter-sue for frivilious & malicious prosecution. Life.....it ain't simple.
Sorry, but you have quoted the comment out of context. It started with IF you think.... as in; if you actually believe that, then you have your head up your ass: i.e. it's just not the case and if you think it is you're not paying attention, it was not said as an insult I have been going to this event for years now and beyond VCR, Taco bell, McD's and that table restaurant, I have no idea what other stores are there and have no reason to find out (The only reason I know Vons is the supermarket there is because of this thread.) All the people I know would likely say the same as we come from 20+ miles away, we have no reason to shop there, it's just not convenient. We go to see the cars, maybe have a coffee, then we go for a drive and maybe have lunch somewhere in Malibu. Shopping is the last thing we're going to do. Exactly!
Why don't we leave the sophistry behind along with the questionable phrasing and namecalling? There won't be any wiggle room allowed on future posts.
Whatever... if I was going to call people names, I would have been more direct Now lets move on ok? .
I don't agree with this statement. I don't know you, but I come from Burbank, which is 20+ miles away. Every Sunday, I walk down to Vons and make a purchase there. On my way down, I have gotten to know what stores are on the way down. I have stopped into those stores and made purchases (at least the ones that are open). I'm guessing the only reason you know Vons and not the other stores is that you just don't care what else is there. Others, like me, choose to get to know the area we congregate in, and support the adjacent businesses. You're right in saying it's not convenient to shop there, but that's beside the point. It's inconvenient to make the drive in the first place. Why not patronize the businesses after you've made the drive? You're already there! On a separate but related point, the only business besides Dusty's that I've seen take advantage of the influx of customers on Sundays has been the hair salon next to VCR (and, for a while before they discontinued breakfast, Chick's). They cut prices on Sundays for patrons. I remember Dusty saying that her business had seen notable increased revenue thanks to the car show. Why haven't other businesses been as savvy as this one?
I believe that is basically what I said. (actually, I said I didn't even know the supermarket was a Vons) Others like me, are only there to see the cars and perhaps have some coffee, not to shop. I don't know you either, but you are just one person and that doesn't make your scenario true of many people. While I am just one person as well, I have been going to the meet with groups of people for years now and I've yet to see anyone go shopping while there. I have also observed lots of people showing up walking around looking at the cars and then leaving empty handed. Additionally, I have been asking people I know since this thread started and they confirmed that they don't shop there. So I am basing my opinion on a sampling, not just myself. While I am sure there are others like you who do shop there, I think you are over estimating the impact of such people. Likely, we are both right, but obviously some businesses feel the meet is costing them customers or we wouldn't be having this discussion Because: A) As I've stated several times, I am not interested in shopping when I am out in my sports car, Sunday morning is drive time, not shopping time B) I get my shopping done at more convenient times, more convenient (to me) places and in my more practical car, there is no need to go shopping when I am at SCS C) SCS is but just one stop, because it is inconvenient to go there, I try and make a trip out of it and enjoy the wonderful roads nearby, so why would I go shopping only to have to carry it around with me all morning while I go driving? If I actually need something I will pick it up at the stores in my neighborhood on my way home. Now again, I too am very disappointed that the event is being canceled, but I am trying to be pragmatic and understand the other persons point of view, it's a much better approach than just being angry and whining about it
