I know that it's been quite a while since I've actively posted here, but I need your help!

I am attempting to find the nearest place to Memphis, TN that is able to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on the 348. I don't want to say much, since I know so little, but I will tell you this... She made an ugly sound while coasting and then died, not to be revived. Sleeping in the garage, post-tow :(

I just don't know yet, guys... Had her towed home, so she's not been on a lift yet. This Saturday, myself and a Master ASE tech-buddy are going to get into it some and make preliminary observations...

When you tried to restart it, was the engine spinning over really fast? Hope not....

    +1!! :(:(

Last time I read about an "ugly sound while coasting and then died", an Fchatter had a tensioner bearing collapse that ****ed the belt that ****ed the engine.:eek:

Lets hope for the best here. :(:(

Plugitz is at the house looking at it right this minute.

It appears that the belt tension may have dropped and the belt jumped a few teeth... Yikes

Now you are in trouble. Just make sure you go check on him in the garage every once in a while. He has been known to be sleeping under cars with a bottle of JackD pretending to work.

So... Bruce was in the region, and was kind enough to drive over and take a look at the car. After removing the top covers on the timing belt, it was easy to see the problem... A failed tensioner bearing allowed the belt to slip and the timing to go haywire.

    Bent valves? You know it!

Pistons okay? I sure do hope so.

With the market for these things being what it is, I'm hoping to convince him to do an engine-out at home using "Ernie's 2-jack Method". From there, we'll get the heads off and send them, possibly to Bruce (Plugzit) in Cali, and have them reworked. While they're gone, we'll focus on the rest of the 30K mile service package.

    You guys ready for this?!

    Sorry to hear mate. :(:(

This is EXACTLY what happened to the 348 I was talking about. :(:(

Do you know how old the tensioners are?? When was the last time it had a major service? :):)

I hope you get her back on the road in no time mate. This is the 2nd 348 Spider in the last week with engine troubles. They reckon it comes in three's......................who's 348 Spider is next?:eek:

Keep us updated with pics mate. Kudos to Plugz for diagnosing it for you! :):)

Needless to say, I've been too busy to deal with the Ferrari. Fortunately, things lightened up recently, and the call was placed to Lee @ EuroSport in Hermitage, TN. He was kind enough to drive down and pick her up yesterday morning, and she's currently awaiting to be pulled apart.

    You'll know as I know.
