No surprise there. I don't think anyone expected him back in 2009.

Honestly, I don't expect him back in 2010. I hope I am wrong.

I am with you----Massa would be very smart to rest easy and take as long as it takes--This kind of injury is not something to mess with.... I would be very surprised if he ever drives that car again...

For a while there I didn't expect him back at all, so waiting until 2010 is fine with me... just bummed he'll be driving with that f**king Spaniard...

I really do hope he gets back to race in 2010.

I also really hope it won't be in a Ferrari.

    Massa back on track
    Monday 12th October 2009 - PlanetF1.com

Felipe Massa has returned to a Formula One car for the first time since his life-threatening accident in Hungary earlier in the year.

The Brazilian drove a F2007 at Ferrari's private test track on Monday.

After an initial lap to get reoriented, Massa returned to the garage briefly and then headed back out on the track, according to the ANSA news agency.

Massa was knocked unconscious by a errant spring in qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July and crashed into a safety barrier. He injured his left eye area and required surgery and later had a metal plate inserted.

He just completed 79 laps at Fiorano and all seems to be fine.

    I'm sure he'll be ready for 2010 ;)

    Great news.

Unfortunately, the final verdict will not come until real competition in a current car. I'm not sure running an old car on a well known track is going to flush out a 0.2-0.3 sec / lap decrease in Massa's performance.

I absolutely want Massa to be on the F1 grid in a Ferrari at the season opener in 2010,... Just being realistic...

    OUCH!!

Alonso is Ferrari\\\'s BIG hope to win back the Championship, they chased him for years and paid a fortune to get him, for mine [and Ferrari Inc.] opinion, the best driver currently in F1.

I like Massa too, esp. that his nonno is Italian is a bonus.

Still looking foward to V.Rossi in a Ferrari ~ in 2013?...God becomes a SuperGod!

I don't think that they were looking for lap times as much as the state of his recovery. The stresses of the car he used are similar enough to the current one to provide a valid assessment of that.

And if FA blows his doors off, the same in here will be saying his injury was a big deal..;)

    Works both ways.

Myself I hope he comes back gun blazing, but said that I'm not a big fan nor a hater of him.

No injury when he continually beat Kimi and he will be the same in a few months. Ferrari hired Alonso to teach Alonso a lesson in humility. :)

Sorry Franco but if that is where you're getting your reasoning for thinking that Massa will beat Alonso then I think you're going to be unplesantly suprised. Unike Kimi, Alonso will have full support regardless of what Ferrari do. He is bringing his own support team with him. I'm sure he learned a lesson watching Kimi's situation and made sure that he wasn't going to leave it up to the team to "equally support" both drivers. Massa will have no chance against the ability of Alonso...just like he wouldnt have had against Kimi's ability. Kimi and Alonso are in a different level of driving and racing ability than Massa. I'll still be rooting for Massa because of my dislike of Alonso...but I do realize it will be basically a futile attemt.

    IMHO, of course ;)

Just watch and see what happens next season between Massa and Alonso. Alonso will only fight if he can win the WDC otherwise he is a quiter. BTW Vettel is the favourite for the next race too. Strange how the bookies seem to know more than the average F1 fanatic. Enjoy the F1 soap opera. :)

    Utter bullsh!t!.

He's never quit once in his entire career. Even against LH and McLaren he raced hard to the bitter end when he lost control of his McLaren and crashed it comprehensively in Japan.

My honest and sincere hope is that by the time Massa is ready to drive again, Alonso has gone to NASCAR.

Thats funny....he quit Mclaren after 1 year. Hardly the mark of a person "sticking it out"...so to speak.

He's not a quitter as long as he's happy in the team. Look at his performances at Renault - rubbish car, but the guy is most definitely trying when he knows he has no chance of WDC and very little chance of a race win.

I think FA and FM are a good pairing at F. Won't be long till we find out for real!
