Certainly, we all **** up from time to time, but I don't **** up when it comes to driving on public roads (racing is another story), but you, sir, were the one who characterized him as a moron. One less moron on the road sounds like a great idea to me.

It is pure stupidity, but if he's convicted of these charges, he will be kicked out of his institute and his life's work is basically nullified. Thank god no one was injured in this whole ordeal, but given that everyone is safe and fine, I don't think the potential consequences fit the crime. Give him a $10k or $20k fine, something that will really handcuff him financially... that's a lesson learned. Get kicked out of the institution he worked so hard to get into... that's a recipe for suicide. I absolutely despise people who drive drunk, but there's a difference between going out to the bar, getting sloshed, and driving home, versus drinking the night before, waking up in the morning and driving home (which is what happened... his BAC was *JUST* over the legal limit). No arguing the speeding thing. No one said he wants to get away with it, and I think this holier than thou attitude that some of you guys are projecting is downright ridiculous because as I said earlier, you could dig into the personal lives of almost everyone and find some unlawful activity.
Cameron, not sure why you are trying to justify things by saying we've done illegal things too. As I said, you are right...we've all got speeding tickets etc. But this guy was caught for worse and with a suspended license! Can I ask why his license was suspended before? get the picture? This guy won't change if he gets off lightly yet again. Everyone deserves a chance to change their lives. Let's just hope this guy gets the life changing help he needs.
Not meaning to get into a sh*t throwing contest, but I see where Cameron is coming from. I know how it feels to work your entire life just to get into the 'institution' of your choice. I've been busting my ass all the way through high school and my undergraduate degree (yes, I will admit that I am very privileged financially by means of backing from my parents. I have been working full time (even though my parents are well-off enough for me not to have to), and have barely "partied" at all through university or high school because I want the best shot at law school possible. No, I'm not trying to gloat. I'm VERY thankful to my parents for all they've provided for me, and I make sure they know it. On that note, if I were to do something stupid in ONE night, make ONE stupid decision that leads to something like this (knocks wood), does that mean that it should jeopardize my chances at law school and completely mess up my future? I think not. Yes, if someone messes up they should be punished. I'd like to think a hefty fine, a rise in automobile insurance rates, and even a bit of community service should smarten a person up, but I don't think it should jeopardize their entire life. That's just my $0.02 though.
This moron's situation doesn't have anything to do with a singular 'mistake'. This is a result of multiple instances of moronic judgment: 1) moron lost his licence previously for who knows what 2) moron decides to drink his ass off and then decides to drive without a licence 3) if that's not already bad enough, moron decides to speed excessively and who knows what else Perhaps moron doesn't want to keep his job. Have you considered that?
Adi, did you read the story? Was it really just once? "One night", "One Mistake"? No, he was caught already suspendid!!!! Also if you read my posts I still (somehow) wish this guy the best because no one is perfect. But he has to learn this time or else he'll do it again....and who knows...with worse results. So he has an awesome career and would be devastated if he'd lose it? He should think about that before he gets behind the wheel drunk and with a suspendid license and who knows what else. When you have a respectable and improtant career you love so much there is a certain way of life you must also lead outside of work that in itself is respectable. It goes hand in hand. Nobody's perfect but this guy simply hasnt learned. He'll simply pay his way out of this situation yet again.
His license was never suspended. I never once said this, and I don't know why this is a sticking point for anyone's arguments (nor do I know why there even is an arguement because I simply asked for some advice and not which direction your moral compass is pointed towards). If you have no advice, then don't respond. It's really as simple as that. And are you that unintelligent that you have to use the adjective 'moron' repeatedly? I think the only 'moron' here is the person trying to pass judgement on someone else without knowing the person, knowing the specifics of the case, etc. Grow up.

Common man, that kind of stuff isn't needed here. You can't come onto a public forum and ask people to help your drunk-driving suspended-license speeding friend escape the punishment he deserves.
For a moment, try to forget that you are perfect and put yourself in his shoes. He has already made a mistake that he probably profoundly regrets. No question he's going to face some punishment, but we'e all entitled to the best defence we can get. There's nothing wrong with trying to minimize it. Would anyone here suggest they wouldn't fight it to the best of their ability? Forget for the moment the moral high ground that you wouldn't be in that position in the first place. People are arrested for DUI every single day. They're not all evil demons.

I'm sorry but there's a HUGE difference between making a mistake and what this guy has done. Put myself in his shoes? I would NEVER drink and drive, let alone with a suspended license, and then speed on top of that. If I somehow ended up with a suspended license, I would be careful as hell to make sure I don't get myself into any more ****. Oh, guess what this guy did? He OBVIOUSLY didn't learn his lesson the first time when he committed something serious (yeah you don't get your license suspended over a stop sign ticket know what I mean?). What if you and your family were on the road the night this guy was too.. and he crashes into your car and injures or God forbid even kills your whole family... are you still gonna be saying "Oh I'm gonna put myself in his shoes and give him a break because he just made a small mistake". Please give me a break. This guy could've KILLED someone. People CHOOSE to drink and drive, so no, I have no sympathy for the people arrested every day for it. Why should I have to risk paying the price for their idiotic decisions? Aren't I entitled to be driving on roads safe for me and my family, free of idiots drinking and driving, especially ones that are repeat offenders?
