    Hijack alert!

Nah - Not if you grow up with it :)

Even better, but "dead" now I believe, was "butchers back slang" - Initially "invented" by, not surprisingly, butchers. They reversed words so that they could talk about customers without 'em knowing what they were saying.... I had some family members in the retail biz who were "fluent" - Talk about a different language altogether!

    Cheers,
    Ian

Ian thats it mate you just reminded me that was so funny I used to do that myself, I mixed it up backward words with rhyming slang so funny, and yes just totally baffle customers who would end up laughing.

OK, I'll be one of the contrarians here. I think they'll be back in F1 because of the financial power of VW and Piech's link to racing. He was in charge of the 917 project, among others. I think he would love to challenge MBz. And remember Audi had a huge commitment to Le Mans. I think Porsche will be back.

If VW/AUDI calls the shots yes. If Porsche does I doubt it.
As Dr. Porsche used to say "Shoemaker stick to your last".

Yes, but when your "last" is a lower level of motorsport you're just making excuses. Let's face it, Porsche left the sport to avoid costs related to designing engines to compete with the revolutionary Renaut engine, same as Honda, can't say I blame them.

No way Porsche comes back with Bernie making newbies use the Cosworth lump, but with the dumbing down of what used to be F1 it's more doable from Porsche's perspective, to enter the sport.

Doable yes but IMO Porsche has a lot to lose (a reputation of dominance in motor sport) and not much to gain (a championship that does not have a large following in their prime market) riding on a very long odds bet.

    No WAY.

Porsche does not have that kind of money to run F1 like they would want and need to in order to uphold their reputation.

I think VW could scrape up enough euros to go F1 racing.

NFW.....they don't come close to the cubic dollars the Mercedes boys have to dole out and Germany is not going to finance Porsche like France did with Renault

We are talking about a ton of cash to start up and run a F1 team with a goal of being "competitive".

Thats why I don't put much credence in any of the "new Mosley sponsored" teams including USF1 to do much of anything except fold in a few years. Look at Force India, they will be gone soon if they can't figure out how to pay their outstanding accounts payable. Outside of manufacturers footing the bill, sponsors are ghosts and future sponsorship is drying up rapidly in this economy and I don't think we will see much competition from non-factory teams. Do you really think ING pulled the plug due to Singaporegate???? it was an easy out excuse/contract breach that allowed them to get out and keep face.

True, once the tobacco money went, sponsorship came from the finance center and/or tech areas, they're shutting down the $$ faucet. Sure a few alcohol dollars have flowed but they aren't going to shellout mega bucks year after year. Last I was looking for sponsors someone pointed out to me how short a time a typical F1 sponsor survives the 7-10 figures. There will be some room for bit players with the newbies, but Mr E is not going to carry anyone, he's made as many multi millionaires as he's going to IMO. Years back when at Ensign, we gained some 'major' money when a sponsor had approached a front running team trying to spend $1M. He was told to 'f' off, that's how we got it.

If VW doesn't go F1 racing it won't be for lack of funding.

Please remind me how well Porsche's V12 did in the Footwork car- how many poles, now many wins?
