Appears to be a Euro car, but maybe just euro bumpers. What is up with the dash? Did someone do that interior on purpose? The car costs less than a good paint job. If this paint job is good (and to your liking), you could transplant a GT4 that needs paint into this car and come out money ahead! It may be an ugly color scheme (well the blue is ok, just lose the red interior), but if I was an owner of a us bumpered car that had a ratty body or interior, I'd be all over this. That could be turned into a track beast as well.....
This is the perfect car for the guy that wanted to make the 'hot rod' 308! This shell plus some wrecked fwd v8 engine and trans and he'd have a hot rod ferrari for less than 10k easy. He could even add some primer or flat black for effect.
Even better would be to do it in-line. Lose the rear seat, move the firewall forward, install the V8 (or V12) of your choice with a transaxle behind it. Might even be room for a couple of turbos on the sides. Piece of cake!
Funny you say that, was just thinking the same thing myself. Take out the rear seat, build a nice cubby for the front of the V8, add a good transaxle and you're in business. Perhaps a 331 stroker small block Ford with alloy block and some good heads. Four 44idf webers. That'll put out about 400hp/400tq. The fastest 308GT4 on the road, by far, and an interesting engineering process. Of course, the purist snobs will sneer but who really gives a ****e? I sure don't.
Perfect opportunity to go electric: Get a Tesla drivetrain and voilà, the prototype of the next generation Dino. Nice revival plan for the Dino brand: Ferrari stays with internal combustion engines, Dino goes green with electric powertrains.
Before buying my Mondial, I was seriously thinking about getting a Ferrari body and adding the electical components. I couldn't find one without engine/tranny so I bought my current Mondial. http://www.electroauto.com/ The GT4 or Mondial are ideal prospects for EV, as the rear seats, rear and front trunks become a hefty battery pack. $5K for the body + $12K average for the electrical engine, batteries, gauges etc, you build a nice GT-4 EV. Anyone interested in this project?
Why is the dash all ripped up - what's going on there? Also, it is Dino-badged - so not 1977 - but whatever. Still, for USD$5k, the body and bits are worth more as is. I banged up the rear of mine a few years ago and a new rear boot (trunk) lid cost at that time something like USD$4k for a start. I'd put a 430 motor and transaxle in with twin turbos.
im interested... anybody in the stockon area that can check it out for me and possibly take some detail pics? regards hf
I like the electric car idea. When my dad wanted to build one, i convinced him to use a Porsche. He's got over 6,000 miles on it now as an EV. My flame suit is on, check it out. Before you chastize him as a tree hugger, this is his only car that gets more than 10mpg and he owns 6. http://www.dpccars.com/car-videos-08/10-16-08page-Electric-Porsche-912.htm
Don't hold your breath on that guy. I've been trying to work a deal with him for 2 days. Barely answers phone calls. Get pissed if you ask questions. I just got off the phone with him. He doesn't have a title on it. Then he just got mad and said it wasn't for sale any more. I told him I still wanted in and he just said "No" and hung up on me.
No title? I'd be very wary of that car. No title and an uncommunicative seller usually means bad news. There will be some story like the guy owns a repair shop and the owner of the 308 (who has the title) left the car there for an engine rebuild. The owner and the shop owner got cross-wise about the cost of repairs or the quality of repairs and the shop owner is selling the car now alleging he has a workman's lien on it. Scratch a little below the surface and there's a fair chance you'll find some silly story like that....
Kudos to your dad for actually coming through with a project like this. How long did it take him to complete the conversion? I have a neighbor that took about 5 years of on an off fiddling until he got his Porsche 914 running. At 6000 miles, your dad saved about $900 in gas and a couple of oil changes.
