The 348 was a low point for Ferrari. Here's a car when ferrari had a clean sheet of paper imo. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Those are some harsh words for what was a leap in innovation for Ferrari. They actually made the jump from traditional steel tube chassis to a much stiffer monocoque structure with a tubular rear subframe set-up. Essentially making a better chassis than earlier models. This was also the blue print used for the later F355, which is herald as one of the best. The horsepower was also jumped up 40 more than the 328, which was in line with what was expected for the latest model at that time. Just like any new endeavor they had some teething pain, but the car is a rock-solid platform. It also shared the same transverse gearbox set-up as much more expensive models of that time to give the car more balance. As far as innovation goes it was one of the highest points in Ferraris history and a break away from the old and into the modern era of car building. Regardless of performance, Ferrari made the move to improve the breed and was brave enough to delve into new designs. --Mike
Want to know why the 348 is widely considered the worst Ferrari ever made. Because of stupid people defining the negatives of there predecessor to make a mark for themselves and threads like this one that promote the idea. Nearly 6000 hits based on a headline. How many wandering chatters have now confirmed the virtues of a car they have never even sat in, never mind driven. 355 owners should be ashamed. Your cars are 348's with more HP. That HP came with its own set of problems. Can we please SHUT TF UP.
Dont get carried away regarding 355 owners. There are hundreds of threads on fchat about the problems the F355s can have and how bullet proof the 348s are. Far more problem threads than any on the 348s. But we suck it up Had the President of ferrari Luca di Montezemolo, called the F355 the worst Ferrari. Then being a gracious lot, we F355 owners would have took it on the chin LOL!!!! But he didnt
Take it up with the President of Ferrari Luca di Montezemolo. He said the 348 was a pos. IMHO what ever Ferrari you can afford is the best Ferrari
People have taken it up with Luca di Montezemolo (see earlier in the thread). I believe what Mike was doing was eloquently countering your statement: Do you speak from personal experience of Ferrari 348 ownership? All the best, Andrew.
This thread was STARTED by a 348 owner. One reason the "348 is widely considered the worst Ferrari ever made" is because the President of Ferrari says so and repeated it at the 458 launch. 355 owners are not ashamed at all, we really enjoy driving a superior car!
I agree ...... after certain 'familiar' mods ......... that nero 348SS sounds/runs a lot better/cooler than a standard 348 ......... ..... the only 'clean sheet' ..... was the body/chassis ........ the 360/CS engine is carried over from the 355 ..... As KKSBA mentioned this thread was created by a very passionate 348 owner, who puts 355 parts on his car ..... ...... I agree we 355 owners, rightfully so are a feisty group ............ but those who exaggerate and complain about 355 'issues' the most, are more often than not 348 owners ...... because the 355's great looks, great HP and even better sound ...... makes those few 355 haters feel insecure ....... +1 ...... I do not have 'issues' with the 348 ...... it happens to be many of its owners who perpetuate dissension ......... we had a vote to include 355 owners into making a 348/355 brotherhood and 348 owners turned it down by a huge margin ........ so if anyone is harboring hate it would be many 348 owners ....... Precisely!! .................. we did not start this thread or tell Luca to hate on the 348 ........ none of this negativity was 355 owners doing ....... we are just 'the default target' for angry 348 owners who need a common enemy ......
Oh dear, when'd that happen? Was it in a thread on here? Ask again in just under 10 years from now when I've got my 348, as I'd be happy to join a joint Brotherhood. I would have thought the 'common enemy' here is Luca di Montezemolo. However, there have been a lot of 355 owners popping in purely just to rub salt into the wound rather than offer any sort of Ferrari Camaraderie to their kindred spirits in the 348. Jovial ribbing (UK/AUS) / teasing (USA) and banter is appreciated, but perhaps the context isn't right for that in this particular thread - as some people are understandably genuinely upset to see the current Ferrari leadership continually make disparaging comments about the cars they're so very proud to own and enjoy. I think some sort of armistice in the 348/355 banter for this thread would be good for preventing things getting out of hand - well meaning jokes might be too easily misinterpreted in the context of this discussion. All the best, Andrew.
This is like arguing over which Italian Super Model has better looking tits. It's all in the eye of the beholder... I am sure glad that I own the "worst" Ferrari ever. Still beats anything else out there, IMHO. Kai
The reason he didn't is because it was his project. I asked in a previous thread, has he ever bashed his own product the way he has his predecessors' product?
Asking that question will get no answers. How would anyone on here know unless he made it public? Like he did with the 348.
Perhaps someone here knows someone who has worked for Ferrari and found out over dinner? It's funny how private comments can sometimes leak out into the public domain. At least, he's never (to my knowledge) publicly bashed a project he's worked on or really acknowledged any areas in particular need of improvement in public. In my view, it was petty of him to bash the products of his predecessor... but that's been discussed at length earlier in the thread. All the best, Andrew.
I agree, but i think had he let anything slip. This would have been reported years ago, and with great glee by the 348 guys But there again, he did not and it realy does not matter. I find that 355 owners do not dislike the 348s and there traits, as much as 348 owners dislike the 355s for there traits. I have not read on here a genuine 355 owner say that they would not buy a 348 for any negative reasons. But i am always reading how 348 owners would never buy a 355 because of some problem reason or another. So as they say its swings and round abouts. but we all share a passion that is ferrari
Started by a 348 owner and kept alive by 348 bashers like yourself. HEY STUPID...you have a 348 with a differant engine that is, by your deffinition worse. Continuing with this thread over and over and over is bashing your own precious car. I've been taking it on the chin by idiots like you forever and I'm tired of it. One more time SHUT TF UP
Are you trying to sell a 348 right now? It strikes me as odd that your letting a forum thread get to you so much.
No I'm not selling my 348 SS....EVER. Strikes me as odd that the bashing continues and I get to see that absurd headline over and over again. The thing that makes the 348 the worst Ferrari is threads like this. Passerby's now express a negative opinion of a wonderful car simply because of the ridicule posted by the folks here that claim to know something. Your bashing yourselves. 6442 hits and 244 posts on how my car sucks and your is great. BS.
You mean like you did....Oh...Thats right...you got rid of your POS 355 and got a 360. More evidence.
...such as calling them "stupid," "idiots" or telling them to shut the **** up. You're taking this discussion way too personally. Take a week to calm down and, even then, I suggest you just stay out of the thread. By the way, you're other retaliatory 355 thread has been closed.
Huh? Why you being like that? Is all this really getting to you that much? Go get some more medication and relax man. I dont understand why you have read something thats not even there in what i wrote. Or is it that the truth hurts? What is it? Lay down on the couch and tell us all about it
That's what I meant - publicly. If he wants to bash a product privately that is a different story, because at least he is maintaining professionalism by keeping his negative thoughts private.
