    Hello guys,

My hood will not open and the light is on indicating that the latch is broken/stuck. The local dealer tells me I need a new one and this is a common problem.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the hood open when the latch is stuck?

What should a latch run for one of these?

    Thanks

    Jon

I have had the latch get stuck or the most common case is when I lift the hood to un plug the battery tender [talking 456 here] I 'think' I have shut the hood correctly only to find the light come on after a short distance. I pull over and try to open the hood, which gets stuck.

Banging on the front hood, causes it to loosen and I can unseat and re-set correctly: Since that hood is Kevlar and Carbon Fib. it causes no damage unlike metal ones.

SO, If mine continues to work, after such abuse I'm thinking your problem is not common. A one-off if you will.

    Refer to your owner's manual.

There's an emergency hood release cable that can be acessed through the
front grill (you will probably have to pull the grill out).

Remove the rubber plug cover and the cord is above it.

I've never heard anything about latch problems on 550s.

It isn't exactly easy but after a few years you get to be very grateful that Ferrari provides a back up for every remote body panel opener on the car. It saves a LOT of money when a cable breaks or a solenoid dies.
