    I'm tring to replace the brake pads on my 82 GTSI,cannot depress the pistons in left rear caliper.Question do i first need to disconnect the parking brake cable? Will this then allow the pistons to depress back in the caliper,or do i have a stuck piston.I did not try the passenger rear just in case i need to rebuild both.Ant suggestions? Harry.

    Just did that job a few months ago and also had a stuck piston. Yes you need to disconnect the handbrake cable. I bought the two 'O' rings sets (1 small 1 large) and cracked the caliper apart. Followed the instructions on Birdman site and the Pelican Porche site and now have decent working handbrake.

    Once the caliper was apart I used a block of wood and a 'C' clamp and gave the piston a tiny nudge inward to brake it loose and all is good. The suggestion about using a grease gun on the bleed valve sounds sensible but an overnight soak in brake cleaner usually works.

    Thanks Paul,I'll start on it tomorrow,hope the piston is'nt stuck.

    cannot depress the pistons..... If it's the same as a '79 308, you don't depress the piston; you back it off with the adjustment. refer to Birdman's procedure here:http://www.birdmanferrari.com/service/caliperrebuild/index.html

    do not attempt to force the piston in you will damage it. there is a threaded adjustment on the inner caliper that draws the piston in and out. it is under a threaded cap. as stated, check birdman's tutorial. all things will be revealed.
