Hi Guys, This may be old news to you all but I am a new owner to My F355, 1997 GTS manual 5.2 model. I have noticed some idle and slow running problems and being a mechanic I did some investigation, I found that the metal air pipes from the idle valve that connect to either plenum chamber had not been fitted correctly and worn through on the cam covers so were leaking air.

I have repaired my pipes and re fitted them so they support themselves and not rest on the engine, I would suggest checking yours as weak running can burn out valves etc.

from the back of the car the left pipe had worn through on the cam cover and the right pipe was rubbing on the cam sensor.

I posted this because its well worth checking before the pipes wear through and cause problems.

On the 5.2 engine type with single air flow meter the idle valve (in front of the oil filter) has a tee piece with two metal pipes that connect to the right and left plenum chambers, if these pipes are not fitted correctly they rub on the engine in the areas shown in the picture, if you feel the underside of the pipes you can feel a mark where they have been touching?

    Jeremy:

Great post! Thanks for taking the time. I assume you are talking about the tubes (No. 28; 2 pieces) coming from the Y-connector (No. 26) which is attached to the Idle Regulator (No. 24).

Thanks Mark, It was my left hand pipe that had worn through too...

Yes It is the pipes numberd 28 on the parts diagram...

And, who needs a back up motor when we have a great forum like this to get to problems before they happen...

    Well done Jenson...And Brawn...
